Password Management

We would like to give permission to certain users to reset passwords.

 

Example: "Mr IT" can reset passwords in selected OUs.

 

I recall a very helpful program that achieved this, but can't remember the name. Please can anyone either share the way they achieve this, or recommend a method?

Can't you add a desktop shortcut to an MMC console pointing at the active directory OU? Just add permissions to that OU to allow the user to edit.

I remember doing this when we had an XP network. We found it unsuccessful when we moved to Windows 7.

 

Re: Password management: I am trying to persuade senior staff about the benefits of some kind of self-service password solution, but making no headway at the moment.

Thank you for the replies. I have now created a security group and delegated permissions to the selected OUs. It works very well, however I dislike that fact that a user with these permissions is able to see all OU containers/users.

 

I am wondering if someone remembers a simple password reset program that can be installed instead of the ADUC snap in.

Thank you all for your help. That is the sort of program I was after @andy_b thanks. I have been testing the below program I found earlier, all working perfectly:

I have used change password for years.. works a treat and you can limit to ous that are allowed as part of the search. Delegation still

Needed. I just created a new group and added staff to it . Works well. Added the software to s central software directory and linked to that as a shortcut

Looked at both websites, nether are using https! I would make very sure that what you think you are downloading is what you are actually downloading. Also just took a quick look at one of them and took me about 5 seconds to get the username and new password out of an account that it changed the password for.... sometimes the free and easy way could end up costing.
