We are also having problems with Java and Sam Learning...well, Java mainly.

 

All was working fine, and suddenly, Java has stopped working...

 

If we run the test on Java Tester - Home Page going through the proxy, the java applet tries to load...but after about 10seconds gives up and a red cross is displayed.

 

The actual java console displays the following...

 

Java Plug-in 1.6.0_05

If we run the test on Java Tester - Home Page going out through the LEA, the java applet loads, and all is well....

 

Then if we change the IE proxy settings back to our proxy, everything works fine...

 

Log off, log back onto the machine, the problem restarts all over again...

 

Have looked at the settings on the proxy, there is nothing obvious on there...

 

Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing the problem? I'm running out of ideas...

are you running .man profiles? is the any changes been made to the application data?

Nope not using standard mand. profiles, and as far as i am aware...no changes to the application data...

We are using IpCop and yes SamLearning is in the whitelist.

Hi, had the same problem, might be able to help. How do you have profiles working. If you create a new user, does it copy standard files for the profile from somewhere?

 

Are you using a proxy to get to the internet?

We have a problem with Java and Sam learning. We are RM CC3 using IE7

Sam Learning was fine but has now stopped working with java problems.

 

The strange thing is it will work when logged in as Package Builder but not as a student or Systemadmin. Here is a pasted copy from the Java Console:

I have logged a support call with RM but the responce is very slow and limited. This is being tested on a clean RM machine with no A/V ond only the one version of Java. I have tried Firefox and get the same results so I do noy suspect IE7 or Java. I think this is a station security problem.

 

Can any one out there help please?

Have you checked the block logs on your proxy? I had problems with mine being very hit and miss on .jar files...

Its not a proxy problem. Tried it over a seperate ADSL and it's still the same.

Within IE7 navigate to Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Manage add-ons

 

Is Java enabled here?

A temporary fix is to rebuild your stations with Java v1.5.09 and nothing newer. It does not work if you simply remove the newer versions and install 1.5.09.

I am keeping the issue open with RM as it has to be a station security problem as it works on a non RM PC with the latest Java.

 

Don't really fancy restoring 370 stations. Hope this helps some one else!

If you are having problems finding Older versions (i.e. not 1.6 update 10) most are available here (although single install see notes below):

Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE)

JDK/JRE - 5.0

and select which update you would like from menu, on next screen want JRE

We have found the problem with RM CC3 and Java on Sam learning.

It is caused by old files in the My Documents folder. Cleaning the profile doesn't clear App Data on RM.

 

To fix the problem you can either do a search and delete on the H: or simply get users to delete the deployment folder under the following directory structure:

 

My Documents

My Settings

Application Data

Sun

Java

Deployment (delete this folder)

 

It's that simple!

Hi,

 

we are having similar(ish) problems at our place.

 

The majority of users can use java sites no problem but there are a handful of people who cannot access any sites with java at all; they just see the red cross.

 

When we delete their roaming profile, nothing changes, but if we create a new user who then adopts the defualt profile from the netlogon share everything is hunky dorey. It's crazy. We use vista so the application data is quite different from XP and in any case when the profile is deleted nothing should be left behind and they should pickup the default profile at next logon.

 

Another interesting thing is that java doesn't work as local admin on any PC.

 

We are using Java v6 Update 7.

 

Any ideas would be very welcome.

I would imagine this is the same problem. Find the Application Data for your System Admin and delete the Sun folder That should fix it.

the java\deployment folder is in "username\appdata\locallow" folder which is only created at logon. Deleting this for a domain user doesn't have any effect. I suspect that the issue with the local admin accounts may be down to authentication through ISA so im goin to test this later on today and hopefully eliminate any web filtering that is going on as the cause.

Java has suddenly kicked back into life, one of the weirderst things ive ever had to deal with.

 

In the end it looks like a hotfix for ISA 2006 sorted it out. Don't know if i can be bothered investigating and understanding the problem, ive used up enough of my sanity already with this one!
