InterwebsGuy Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Hi All If you have any Lap/tabcabby trolleys in your school, have you ever tried to lock the side access doors where the power cables go in to? If so how? I'm absolutely fed up of having to chase missing power supplies for laptops and tablets that staff remove and never put back. I've always been surprised that they don't come with a locking mechanism for the side doors, as I can't imagine many places want staff or students interfering with the power cables and chargers.
Gurtlush Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 (edited) if they have the small gold lever? we drill a small hole in it and put a Torx head screw through into the wood (Torx screw purchased on ebay). so far we've never had one removed. Edited May 22, 2018 by Gurtlush 1
LeMarchand Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Not used those brands, but I always cable tie power supplies where possible, preferably somewhere they'd find it a lot of effort to get a knife or pair of scissors to. 1

Those are the ones, yes. Would you drill through the lever, or just put a screw somewhere around the lever to stop it moving? That's an interesting idea, however.

I'd considered this but it does involve making a hole somewhere in the holder trays to tie wrap them to. It's a shame we have to go to such lengths, why can't they just leave them in place?

As I'm in Primary, most of our "pilferage" is from staff who want to permanently keep a tablet in their room or (with laptop trolleys) have either forgotten their own charger or have decided that they want one for home and one for school. 1

This is exactly why we are trying to address it - it seems to happen in both primary and secondary for us. They are the first to moan though when they get a device out of the trolley and it's not charged up!
Steve21 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 We don't use them anymore, but we just had lots of cable ties. Depends which model you got but normally it's either cable ties on the trays if they're ones with the metal arms, or cable ties on the "pockets" that hold the charger as they have those ventilation slits etc. Which ones is it you have? Can have a nosy and see if I remember where we used to do it Steve 1

Can have a nosy and see if I remember where we used to do it Steve We've got these ones, they have metal arms and the little pockets to hold the charger. I've never noticed ventilation slits but I'll have a look for them. The tablet ones are slightly different, that may need a bit more thought about where they could be tied to.
Steve21 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Ah that's different layout, the ones we had were like these: So could put it through those slits Steve 1
