Pyroman Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Apologies if this has been asked recently. I'm after a new mobile to replace my aging Xperia Z3. I don't need all the bells and whistles like fingerprint sensors etc, waterproof is definitely an advantage though. budget around £200, what do people recommend? I've been looking at things like the moto G5/G6 range but had Sony's for years and they've treat me reasonably well.
Localtechie Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Does it have to be new? You can pickup refurbished Pixel 1 for about £220 ish. Straight from Google and guaranteed future security updates. 1
jthompson Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Not waterproof, but I have a 1st gen Nokia 6 and am v happy with it. Pitched similarly to the Moto G5 iirc. 1

Nah doesn't have to be new, the one I currently have is my better half's old one after my screen smashed.
flyinghaggis Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 (edited) I'd probably go with a Moto G6 if it was me. The hardware seems decent for the money and the bezel free screen design looks bang up to date. It's only just been released so I'd expect you'll see at least a couple of years worth of version updates for Android as well. Edited May 22, 2018 by flyinghaggis 1
MartinT Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 LG Q6 for £200 is great except not waterproof. I like it a lot and the camera is superb. 1
Arthur Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Google state the end of version updates for the Pixel 1st gen is October this year and end of security updates the same time next year. I'd be nervous about spending £200+ on a phone that may not be supported at all in less than 18 months time. The original Pixel phones officially support Project Treble so you could continue to get security updates via third-party custom ROMs. www.xda-developers.com/list-android-devices-project-treble-support The other benefit to the Pixel is the free unlimited original-quality cloud storage for photos and videos. www.androidpolice.com/2017/10/13/google-confirms-photo-uploads-original-pixels-grandfathered-life 1

LeMarchand Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 https://www.cubot.net/smartphones/x18-plus/spec.html Never heard of 'em, but they look like a good deal for the price. Not yet in the market for a new phone, but have made a note. 2
MkII Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 (edited) I fancy the Mi MIX 2 for a little over £200 ..well ok £260 - that's a little isn't it? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32829909914/32829909914.html?aff_platform=aaf&cpt=1527002886706&sk=ieuJaqj&aff_trace_key=d70f3f9dceca4d9b8e1900b4e88d0a33-1527002886706-00411-ieuJaqj&terminal_id=ab71c64f7ab94ec48777dc7cbe4b334d Edited May 22, 2018 by MkII 1
