hardtailstar Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 No. No. No. No. What software are they using? Surely if you can use the software on Windows then you'll be saving thousands with Windows laptops. 1
ozydave Posted May 16, 2018 Author Posted May 16, 2018 @hardtailstar Music software sibelius and media will be using Adobe Creative suite, photoshop, premier pro etc Cheers
hardtailstar Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 @hardtailstar Music software sibelius and media will be using Adobe Creative suite, photoshop, premier pro etc Cheers @ozydave so decent spec Windows laptops would do the same and be cheaper to repair. 1
mjk Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 @mjk You have come the closest so far!! lol. We all want to provide the best service. Sometimes we just have to accept the best technical solution isn't the best political solution.
jthompson Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 It's a great idea because MacBook charging leads are nice and long and almost indestructible. (Am I doing it right?)
mjk Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 ..... and all the disks, cpu and memory are soldered to the motherboards so you won't ever have to do a hardware upgrade ! 1
HTCPCP Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 And being made by Apple, they just work Oh and they are Shiny! 1
ozydave Posted May 17, 2018 Author Posted May 17, 2018 Thanks for all the replies. I was wavering at the shiny and no harwarde upgrade but came back to my original thoughts its a c$%p idea. (which i knew it was all along!) Now just got to tell management again the idea stinks! Cheers

mjk Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Before you rush off to management, don't forget to take into account the amount of money you will save in power. Macbooks have LED's under their keys, so they can be operated without the lights on - they will save the planet ! 3
DalekSec Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Don't forget either that Macbooks have batteries that will drain after a few years, then you can buy a whole new Macbook suite. Meaning you can keep the suite nice and updated!

Accura2k7 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 This is not my Plan – I say this at the outset. It’s been proposed that we have a set of 30 Macbook Pro’s in a trolley for music and media students rather than a suite of iMacs. Just fills me with dread! Can you lot convince me this is a good idea? Nope....... 1
HTCPCP Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 When that annoying kid who always brings in his homework in a .pages format so the teacher can't mark it, you can now get them to save it in a real format in the Music department!
difinity Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 The opportunity to deploy iShiny easily around the school for ofstead/parents evenings/open days surely can't be ignored. Great also for taking to external meetings if they aren't already equipped.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 It's a great idea because MacBook charging leads are nice and long and almost indestructible. (Am I doing it right?) Yuu almost are... But every charging lead I've had since the inception of the right-angled magsafe 1 in 2011 has split and died within a year Amazingly my 2009 magsafe lead is still working just fine!

Arthur Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Not to mention that the new MacBooks are USB-C chargers That's actually a good thing since it means you don't need to buy Apple chargers which inevitably break. Amazingly my 2009 magsafe lead is still working just fine! With the right adapter you could use it on the new MacBooks too. https://elecjet.com/collections/cable/products/anywatt?variant=2101223161883
DalekSec Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I do love the maglocks, if i brought the new MacBook with USB-C i would get one of these fo sho: https://www.snapnator.com/
Farloch Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 @hardtailstar Music software sibelius and media will be using Adobe Creative suite, photoshop, premier pro etc Cheers Get some high end PC's and dismiss the idea of even looking at Apple kit. A good spec PC will run all that and more without breaking sweat. Its easier install, manage and maintain, is half the price and is compatible with everything else. Strip away all the bling from a mac and you have an expensive underpowered PC running a custom OS. 1

DalekSec Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Well, now we know WHY the time war started... Never eat apples again | Doctor Who | Know Your Meme I heard that it started when a bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich 'cause he was hungry. The Doctor also doesn't like Pears and sells
