Hi

We are soon to begin adding followme printing using sharp MF copiers, but been told that the followme bit within papercut will have to be completed by me. Does anyone have any guides to setting this all up? As I understand it, there is a virtual queue and then a rule to pass-through to the print queue once their ID has been entered?

Cheers in advance

Hi Matt, I'm sure that they'll be referring to the deployment of the virtual queue which would be your responsibility. Assuming that you're getting PaperCut and the hardware from the same supplier, then I'd expect them to be doing the installation and configuration of PaperCut to match your requirements.

Create a follow me printer i.e. follow-me-print on a new local port called nul, this will then appear in PaperCut and this is the one deployed to everyone so needs to be the highest spec settings.

Once in PaperCut select its a virtual queue and tick the queues you want it to release on. Then when your devices are setup select this as to where to pull its jobs from. In the printers tab tick the box to hide document names so when you open up the queue you don't see the job titles of everyone documents they are printing.

If you are buying in a new copying system then they should do all of the setting up, software needs to be installed on each copier, papercut set up on a server, even setting up virtual queues on the server, in my case the Ricoh engineer sat by me and took me though what we needed to set up on the print server and why. I physically did it, but he was there to help.

If you are going to just be handed the software and told to get on with it you need to change your reprographics supplier right now.
