WJEC 20MB File limit for ICT coursework uploads

Anyone else struggling to condense a years worth of ICT coursework into a 20MB zip file?

We've spoken to them - they're not going to fix it, this year at least, from what we know. They now want it burned to disc if it's over 20MB. They really are well organised, competent and efficient.

can you not cheat and link files via onedrive? Technically the attachment is way below 20Mb

They've said to us they will only accept a PDF less than 20mb and no CDs!!

 

True enough.. the upload window only allows PDFs!

Create a zip, rename the extension to .pdf, upload it, revel in your genius. Then realise your trick takes down their entire website and somehow wipes the entire backend [emoji28]

I suggested that to the teacher. Not tested if there's any checking on the file type, but if we've not heard back tomorrow this is what they'll be getting.

Yup had this issue today, considering last year the same amount of work went on a couple of CD's. Don't think WJEC has a clue, just made our IT teacher panic while trying to zip and convert to PDF only to still be over the limit.

Unit 2 - pdf. We used a website called smallpdf.com which shrunk all the pdf's down to below 20Mb. (paid for if more than 2 an hour, but $6 a month, cancelled immediately was worth it)

Unit 4 - zip file. We rang the IT dept, who agreed to accept a bitlocked USB drive. There was no way I was going to be able to shrink a 400+Mb folder to a 20Mb zip!

I emailed the dude to tell him we'd be renaming our zips to pdf. His reply:

 

Please note that this is not following the coursework submission requirement as outlined in our circulars and may result in candidates being disadvantaged.

 

I've emailed back to clarify as none of our teachers seem to understand what they want.

The idea with Unit 2 must be to have some kind of screen shot gallery saved to amass into a single PDF. Shame we've left it so late to do.

The communication from the WJEC is awful. And it's not isolated to just ICT based subjects, language based subjects that are also using the upload portal are not explained well at all. All it's created is a last minute panic and alteration to files when teachers should be teaching and I could be fixing broken equipment within the school.

Agreed. Why can't they just answer a straight forward question with a straightforward answer. Instead they refer you to the bloated manual that goes on repeatedly about getting the key codes for each candidate and no actual literal explanation just information secreted inbetween the lines.

 

At least I got a direct answer to that last email: "That's it"

Just funny that this "new way" is meant to be simpler, easier and less work for teachers and support staff. I don't want to know how many hours that have being wasted in comparison to just putting things on Disc/USB, fill out the paper work and done.

After much fuss and stress for my poor teachers they've finally allowed us to put on a dvd instead.

 

For a company that turns over £40million a year of mostly taxpayers money, the fact they could not put an online storage solution to give more than 20MB per child is farcical.
