"Surface Phone" rumours - why the excitement?

As much as I love my 640XL, and I'd pick up a 950XL or an HP Elitex3 for the right price, I don't get why people have been getting excited at the prospect of a "Surface Phone" since W10Mobile was released. Given MS's history with phones, I can't see this being a success unless it's going to have reasonably priced handsets and runs Android apps transparently (and preferably Win32 apps).

 

Or am I missing something?

I think that ship has sailed already i'm afraid, even if it turns up I'm expecting it to be a flash look at this, no one takes it up and it ends up like WP and has a sad decline

Some sites are getting lathered up over an MS patent for a folding 2-screen device and a publicity shot that had a blurred out spot on an MS exec's desk that was "probably a surface phone".

 

I'd be fairly happy with a folder that ran W32 apps (though suspect it would be out of my price range) but most people expect it all to be laid out in a store for them. Plus hardly any (none?) of the major banks/institutions offer Windows apps.

Indeed but if your on a desktop why would you want an App for that you'd just use your phone or the website? The mobile apps from some of the banks are good the Natwest / RBS one is great.

If you had your magical folding S phone, you wouldn't want to carry around a different phone and some of the apps are much easier to use on a smaller screen, or there isn't a web equivalent. Wetherspoons, are you listening?
