Stopping all the incoming and outgoing email -Exchange 2007

We have Exchange 2007 and there is a small database corruption happened and I am planning to run Eseutil /p on the mail server.

We use VMware and before I carry out the repair process, I would like to stop all the incoming and outgoing email on the server and then clone the server and take a manual copy of the mailbox DB.

 

Please let me know what is the best way of stopping all the incoming and outgoing email. Any tutorials will be great.

Remove the nic / block firewall

Probably the easiest way to do this is to temporarily disable the send and receive connectors.

 

Be aware that unless you've got some process in place to queue your mail offsite (or in the cloud) then some senders may get time-out NDRs.

All our emails come through our local authority spam filtering system and the mail should wait on their systems until it is accepted by our mail server.

sound like we have a very similar setup to you and would suggest the same as @pantscat

 

My only additional advice is let your LEA know the situation. From experience it will stop them harassing you at the most inconvenient time asking why your server is not contactable and is swamping them.

 

not as if a localized power failure will present those types of symptoms ...
