Bankesy Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Good morning I'm looking for some advice on the following: We use MDT in a number of our schools to install Windows 10 x64 (1703 and 1709) without any trouble. In one of the schools we would also like to have an x86 deployment of Windows 10 1709 but I'm struggling to get it to deploy x86 1703 or 1709 and wondered what I might be missing. I've updated MDT, ADK, the deployment share and boot images in WDS. I've imported the OS and set up a task sequence but it just stops and waits for input at the region select screen. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you
clareq Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Have you created a answer file for the x86 machines? I believe you need a different answer file for x86 and x64
SHimmer45 Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 you will need a different answer file for the x64 and x86 machines. if you have updated your MDT install has it still got all your rules in the MDT share properties as this is where you can globally set things like language and region etc
sted Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 from memory (its been a while since i used x86) you need to install mdt on on x86 pc and connect to the deploymentshare to do some stuff with x86 images/setups
SHimmer45 Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 from memory (its been a while since i used x86) you need to install mdt on on x86 pc and connect to the deploymentshare to do some stuff with x86 images/setups MDT X64 wont be able to generate the CLG file (iirc) to be able to do anything with the X86 answer files you can copy this to the deployment share and the image manager is then able to work with the X86 answer file. its a bit of faffing about. id have to ask why do you need a x86 deployment when you already have X64 running
Bankesy Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 Good afternoon So if I've followed this correctly, the answer is to install MDT onto an x86 machine and then copy the CLG file to the existing x64 deployment share? We need an x86 deployment as the hardware to be imaged doesn't support x64. Thank you
SHimmer45 Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 yeah that should do the trick, iirc i didnt install a new instance of MDT just the WAIK and then ran the System Manager as though i was going to create a new answer file, and then the created CLG was then put in the operating system folder that you are working with on the X64 version of MDK/WAIK
Oaktech Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Bear in mind that you also need to ensure you have an x86 boot image as well... You may have done it, but I haven't seen it mentioned.
gshaw Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 If it helps I deploy x86 images from an x64 server with no issues. Just imported the WIM from original media and it was happy. As above we have x86 and x64 Boot Images provisioned. MDT 8443 deploying Windows 10 1709 and LTSB
