Edge or not..?

Hello, going to roll out Win10 this summer and trying to decide whether to push Edge as default browser, IE has been used by staff for ever but it seems to make sense to use Edge. I so far cant see any of our esystems that don't work with it, then surely MS will deprecate IE at some point?

 

Any thoughts?

Chrome is our only provided browser. Easy to deploy via MSI and loads of group policy options. Plus more people are used to using it.

Make sure you have tested it through whatever proxy/filtering you use, as a student/staff account first. I've found Edge to be the slowest most useless pile of rubbish through our filtering (but it's fine at home). For that reason we use Chrome instead (and IE for the sites that insist on IE)

We make Edge, IE, Chrome and Firefox available on all workstations across site. The user can use which ever they feel most comfortable with, but also if there is an older site that doesn't work in Edge, chances are it'll work with one of the other browsers and vice versa.

+1 for chrome as main browser although there are still sites that insist on IE e.g. the banking app the office uses.

I'm using Chrome for just about everything but I do have Edge on the build, at present though all I'm using Edge for is to run MyMaths...

Chrome and IE here. Our MIS system only works correctly in IE, and our intranet, Moodle and streaming media server work correctly in every browser except IE. Does this cause us constant problems? Yep! Rather than saying "Have you tried switching it off and back on again?" our saying is "Use Chrome not IE".

I was kind of set on using Edge but Small Basic needs Silverlight, which only works in IE....anyone customised Small Basic somehow? I have read a rumour there is a Small Basic update coming that doesn't need Silverlight.

We've got multiple choices here.. I don't like edge but sometimes gives us issues on older software/sites..

 

2018 and we still have software which only works on a single browser...

We run LTSB in our environment. Even our web development classes haven't complained about its absence. Chrome is default everywhere and is pretty much the only option. IE is still present in the LTSB image with no icons pointing to it. If someone needs they can just start typing it's name in the Start Menu to find it. If only having a single browser ever becomes an issue I can use GPP to pop up a shortcut for IE on the desktops.

OK so how can they run Small Basic then? when you save it saves as an .exe, which I am sure you dont allow running from user documents, then if they click 'Publish' (which is what we currently tell students to do on our win7 machines) it opens in the default browser, which isn't IE in Windows 10?

Chrome Default - IE on Windows 10 image - no Edge - no issues

We have been pushing Windows 10 for the past year (Build 1703 Enterprise) with Edge as the default, no issues from IT or users standpoint. We do also install Firefox as a standby but most of the time it goes unused.

We do not use Small Basic, though looking at the system requirements, I don't see where it even uses the web browser. Is this what you are referring to?

Also, just a quick note, after upgrading a few test machines to the 1803 build yesterday, Edge now seems much faster on the handful of sites that it previously had some issues with.
