Pete10141748 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 If I have a server with 1 quad-core processor, do I need to get Server 2003 R2 to make use of it, or will the standard Server 2003 SP2 work just as well? Cheers!
Michael Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 (edited) Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008 will all work with Quad cores with no problems. You'll also see more graphs in Task Manager No need to upgrade to R2 in your case, unless you want the additional R2 functions too. Edited April 11, 2008 by Michael 1

techyphil Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Bit of a success story but i've installed Sp2 and R2 components across the servers this week and made use of the R2 functions... Blocking crap (mp3's videos etc) was a doddle - saved hrs of testing gp's and simply enabled file screening. Also generated some reports and free'd up 40ish GB! Another point to mention is that our backup was taking 16hrs @ 450mb/min and its now doing 950-1gb/min!!! Works with sims, aimhigh and vertitas v10 (older 1) although you need to generate a report using FSRM before else the backup may fail (if you are using the updated R2 file server features). Overall im very chuffed! w00p
