Behaviour and Achievement Logging

I've stumbled across a problem with behaviour and achievement logging....linked to the parent app. Firstly....the parent app is OK. We have launched to Year 7 parents and the feedback is good. However, there seems to be a problem with displaying full achievement and behaviour information in the app.

 

The app draws out information from an achievement and behaviour log for the parents to see. However, unless the member of staff modifies the activity (subject) and also enters their name in the 'actioned by' box....the parent app only displays the achievement or behaviour....not the subject and member of staff. If this is the case then this is rubbish!

 

SIMS knows who the member of staff is (as they have logged into SIMS).....and if you are completing an achievement or behaviour log from the register then it also knows the subject! So why does this need completing again? Is there any way of completing these two drop down menus by default?

 

This COMPLETELY defeats the object of using rick click on the register and quickly logging a behaviour or achievement....staff think this feature is great. But now I'm telling them that they have to go fully into the achievement or behaviour menu to complete the log. Am I correct in this?

I can see why the member of staff wouldn't want to be identified. If I were a teacher I'd much prefer my anonymity to be private by default. The primary goal is achieved: the parent is notified of the mark and the reason, so is informed of the other side of the story to what their child is saying. This heads off or deflates the vast majority of angry calls to the school office. The last thing you need is to be exposed to retaliation.

It’s been a while since I saw the control panel but I’m pretty sure the school can chose how much detail is shown.

Yes if you login to the SIMS Parent App control panel you can turn off what they can see.

 

There are on/off buttons to show/hide the various options. See screenshot below.

 

We have it set so it just shows the behaviour title and then shows everything for achievment to stop parents ringing the school demanding to speak to teacher XYZ!
