Recommend a Supplier for a Home PC

With the bubble on memory and GPUs I'm looking at buying a pre-built PC for home. Any recommendations/avoids?

What are you looking to do with it? Do you have any minimum specs you need?

 

Is it just going to be for word processing/light internet usage, or will you be using it for gaming? If so, what sort? Just light programs like FTL, older games like Team Fortress 2 etc, or more modern and heavier programs like Far Cry 5, Final Fantasy XV, Witcher 3 etc.

I've purchased laptops directly from Dell before - it still performs well as a basic internet and desktop publishing machine. It struggles with anything more strenuous than Minecraft.

 

My mother in law bought a Lenovo and it's like wading through molasses...

 

There are some pre-built machines on E-Buyer that are worth a look too. Depends a lot on what you want I guess.

Buying direct from Dell is pretty reliable and I have never personally had issues with Ebuyer - I buy most of my kit from them. I disagree with the SCAN returns policy.

I can't comment on that as I've never had to return anything to them - and they're only 20 mins down the road from me so I'd return in person if I needed to... Their service and knowledge is excellent though.

Have bought parts from ebuyer for years, not had any issues though I think they use yodel for delivery so.....yeah. Also laptops bought from the dell outlet, have both been pretty much brand new no signs of wear that I can see, and they come with warranty, had an engineer in my house to swap a mobo with one of them. I bought my PC from Chillblast a good few years ago now. They had great support and a decent warranty. My PC has since been gutted and upgraded!

 

My family have also bought PCs from Mesh a couple of times. They lasted a while.

I didn't need anything too flash so picked up a refurbished HP Elite 8300 (3rd gen i5, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD) and stuck a Nvidia 1050ti in it. Nice and nippy for everyday use and I can play games (maybe not the latest and greatest at max settings) without issue.
