It's definitely a M/S problem and not a Citrix problem. I read somewhere in a forum (I can't remember which forum at the moment) that M/S know about the problem with the IE7 Branding dll but don’t have a fix for it as it's a core dll.

 

Also forgot to mention that Windows File Protection will pop up when you rename/replace the dll in the dllcache folder. Also noticed that windows updates also seem to replace the IE6 dll with the IE7 dll.

 

I guess what would be handy is a script of some sort that renames the IE7 branding dll and copies the IE6 dll to the right place. My scripting skills are not that good :oops: but it have been able to make a batch file that can do it, but only when an administrative account is logged on.

 

Anyone want to rise to the challenge of writing a script for this :?:

Yes I realise it's not a Citrix problem. This can be illustrated by connecting via RDP or logging onto the Console and suffering from the dame delay.

ah.... havent installed IE7 on any of the workstations. Holding off on that for alittle longer. However I have installed the MS patch for xp. this has speeded up login in times to 30 seconds. do i need to apply the 2003 patch to my DC server?

I only applied 899409 to my XP clients, I would personally leave the DC as it is... what were your login times before you applied 899409?

 

It might be best to keep away from IE7, until M/S have a fix for it or if they ever intend make one. Lets hope that they do...

Is IE6 still getting security updates?

I have spotted a problem in using the IE6 branding dll. I have some favourites defined in my GPO which are being applied, but the url for the listed favourites are jumbled up e.g. I have two shortcuts’ one for goggle and one for hotmail the goggle link gets the url for hotmail and visa versa.

 

I have also noticed that with the IE6 branding dll in place my WSUS server is forcing IE7 to be reinstalled which of course puts back the IE7 dll. I guess if you are using a terminal server environment you might not have it as a WSUS client, so this might not be an issue.

Good question. Will investigate, i would have thaught so. cant see MS not supporting IE6 for some time yet.

Hi, I have just spotted on the Citrix forum that MS now have a non public 32-bit hotfix for this, KB941158 is what it is called.

 

However trying to get them to give you the hotfix over the phone is difficult. I have tired and failed, where others have tried and succeeded

 

There also is a posting that referes to making a registry key change to stop IE GPO from being processed which also seems to stop the logon delays.
