One question, isn't SIMS a trademark of Capita? So, having 'Open SIMS' would be a trademark infringement I believe.

It could but doubt it as there is a precedent with Exchange and OpenExchange (I'm no legal expert). There is also another project called openSIMS (The Open Source Security Infrastructure Management System) they would also need to sue them. The name is not fixed i only coined it OpenSIMS as most people in education have heard of SIMS and when wanted to create an open source version. Ian

openhgs Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Is there any reason that you aren't participating in The SchoolTool Project (http://www.schooltool.org) rather than starting a new project? Many Open Source projects fail because once the initial enthusiasm wanes, they become one or two man projects and these individuals don't have the resources to drive the project forward. The Shuttleworth Foundation are supporting SchoolTool, and I think a product will emerge at some point.
