new exchange now clients don't work Urgent!!

We've just built a new exchange server 2003.

We have always used a program called Newprof on workstation that links there user name staright to there mail box.

 

The prf file that newprof uses contained the hostname of the exchange server.

 

So to make sure outlook knows where to find new server i need to change the local prf files to point at new server. To do this i thought i'd create a batch script that deletes the old prf file and then copies a new one from a server share.

 

The script does seem to work. The problem is that outlook still does connect to exchange even though the prf file sais where to find it.

 

I've found that i've had to delete local profiles and then when they login again it recreates profile with settings for new exchange.

 

I seem to be having more and more staff syaing they can't access mail.

 

Is there a quicker and easier way i can point these clients at new exchange without deleting profiles???????

Use a login script to apply the new PRF to the user. Use one of the methods at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402581033.aspx

Configure the registry to trigger Outlook to import the PRF file when Outlook starts up. You can use the Add/Remove Registry Entries page in Custom Installation Wizard or the Custom Maintenance Wizard to deploy these registry key options to your users. You can also use the wizards to distribute the PRF file to users by using the Add/Remove Files page.

 

1. Delete the following registry key values:

* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Setup\First-Run

* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Setup\FirstRun

2. In the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Setup subkey, set the value of ImportPRF to a string value that specifies the name and path of the PRF file. For example, set ImportPRF to \\server1\share\outlook.prf.

 

Just have your script check whether the current PRF is the old or new first.
