Hello Folks,

Can anyone unravel this for me? We have Paxton Net2 fobs (the blue stripped ones) which we use for door access across our three sites.

I've also been rolling them out to use with our signing in system (Inventry) and now PaperCut for print management. The big problem I have is having to manually enroll everyone three times - once for Net2, then physically presenting the fob to Inventry with auto-code on and finally on the photocopier after entering their AD user/pass they again need to physically present their fob. This works, but it takes forever.

Ideally I'd want to have their fob ID in their Active Directory record and then sync that across to PaperCut and Inventry, which I know is supported. However all three systems give me three totally different fob IDs!

Net2 is like this: 12340005

Inventry is like this: 123ABACA

PaperCut is like this: 12345678900

Help! Is it possible to work out some algorithm so the Net2 code can be translated into Inventry and PaperCut speak, or is this just a total non-starter?

The short answer is yes it's possible, the longer answer is it depends on the exact models/cards/readers etc.

Normally Net2 take the first 4 hex pairs, (reverse or not depending on reader), convert to decimal and then truncate in reverse at least 8 places.

So for example if PaperCut used first 6 hex pairs, you'd have to work from papercut backwards as net2 only uses 4 and you wouldn't be able to convert backwards to 6 pairs

Hi, we use Net2, Live Register and Papercut and have an Excel spreadsheet that converts the serial number from our fobs/cards into the relevant formulas. Nothing automated though, we then set up the 3 systems. Saves reading the code 3 times into each system. Let me know if you'd like the formulas.

Biostore can manage all of these key fobs.

We enter the fob into biostore which is linked to AD, SIMS, Papercut and Paxton (and cashless catering). Once the fob is in biostore you can use it on papercut and net2.

I'm not sure where inventry would fit into this scenario though but it might be worth giving them a call as this is the sort of thing their systems manage.

I have a spreadsheet too, although this is for mifare (My Cheap reader reads big endian, Paxton needs little endian and only needs 8 chars I think)

Column A = From Cheap USB Reader

Column B Big Endian

Column C Little Endian

Column D Decimal

Column E Final For Paxton Paste

Column A = card number (I scan this in using a cheap reader)

Column B =DEC2HEX(A3)

Column C =RIGHT(B3,2) & MID(B3,5,2) & MID(B3,3,2) & LEFT(B3,2)

Column D =HEX2DEC(C3)

Column E =RIGHT(D3,8)

Papercut Source: Scan here

Convert to hex: =DEC2HEX(G3)

Live Register: =MID(F3,7,2)&MID(F3,5,2)&MID(F3,3,2)&MID(F3,1,2)

Net2: =RIGHT((HEX2DEC(E3)),8)

Not to revive an old topic, but we have the same issue of multiple systems with readers and different numbers. However, none of the above formulas seem to calculate the correct net2 number for me. for instance, one card has scanned as 4263979791, but is 87274852 on net2. I'm not quite sure I understand how its calculated just yet, but this seems to be the latest rabbit hole I'm getting my head stuck into.

Papercut: *ENTER TOKEN HERE*

Transfer Cell: =DEC2HEX(Papercut)

Live Register/Another Transfer Cell: =MID(Transfer Cell,7,2)&MID(Transfer Cell,5,2)&MID(Transfer Cell,3,2)&MID(Transfer Cell,1,2)

Net2: =RIGHT((HEX2DEC(Live Register)),8)

Would anyone be able to let me know what model readers you are using on your net2 controllers?

We have some new paxton mifare readers(353-467), but they seem to give the card id in the correct format, rather than the reversed one above. All our other paxton/HID iclass readers give the reversed format, and I'm trying to find a good solution.

I've tried all the card and reader format options, but no joy.

We use the same (P50) with no issues, they need the reversed format

I use a cheap reader to get the code into a spreadsheet that does the conversion

I will just point out that the number you get from different readers depends on the reader as well. We use Inepro SCR708.G readers for our copiers, and they are entirely customisable as to what they do with the ID of the card.

Also, take into account that official Paxton cards make use of the user data area on the card - so unless your reader is set up to get these numbers, you're gonna get different results from a desktop Paxton reader to other readers.

If you want a quick way to use the card number from spreadsheet to AD use this powershell script which populates the pager field in AD - useful for papercut etc.

$names = Import-Csv C:\pagerps1\Pager.csv

ForEach ($Name in $Names)
{
  $FirstFilter  = $Name.givenname
   $SecondFilter = $Name.sn
   $pager=$name.Pager
   $found= Get-ADUser -Filter "GivenName -eq '$FirstFilter' -and Surname -eq '$SecondFilter'"
   if($found){

   $found|Set-ADUser -Replace @{pager = $pager} -Verbose
     }

     else
   {
   New-Object PSObject -Property @{
           GivenName      = $FirstFilter
           Surname        = $SecondFilter
           Status         = 'MISSING ACCOUNT'
           }

     }
     }

Pager.csv has the column headers of givenName, sn, Pager

Hi - just wanted to resurrect this thread as it pretty much matches what we have (or will have) with a couple of exceptions. We will be having the InVentry system installed in a week or so, we have paxton in place although it will ONLY read Paxton net2 cards (not mifare etc) unless we replace all door locks (which won't happen). We also have Kyocera MFDs with currently no scanner/rfid unit.

I understand that Mifare cards can work with all three with a bit of faff but does anyone know whether net2 cards can be made to work with any kind of papercut MFD scanner? If need be, can we get bar code scanners for the photocopiers? I expect we'll need some kind of bar code for InVentry.

We're going to be spending lots of money on all this so I'd rather not mess it up.

Thanks in advance as always.

You can read Paxton cards using any reader that can read Hitag-2 cards. We use Inepro SCR708.G USB readers with our Ricoh copiers. The number you get from them is different to the number used by Paxton itself, but it is a unique ID nonetheless.

Sorry to ressurrect this old thread but we have just had a new gate entry system installed. It is a standalone system and uses Paxton Net2 cards.

Our catering (Biostore) and printing (Papercut) use 1K Mifare cards. Would the Mifare cards work if the codes are converted with the Paxton system?

Alternatively if we replaced our Mifare cards with Paxton cards would the Net2 cards work with Biostore and Papercut?

Paxton has two types of door/gate reader.

Their default ones don't read Mifare, you need to specify at point of order (or replace them with) the Mifare models.

Net2 cards won't work backwards with Biostore/Papercut.
