Ani_IT Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Hi All, I have just installed EWP on one of our test exam laptops. Any idea on how to launch EWP in full screen mode when users login. I have configured the default save location and sign out while exiting EWP via the Config file. I have locked down most of the Windows settings. Struggling to get rid of one drive on the file explorer (tried Regedit and uninstalling One Drive client, nothing works). Anyone had similar issue or any suggestions?

Hi, All the option and there descriptions are listed in the ConfigEditorGUI app, the one you need specifically is called “Startup_FullscreenMode”.
Ani_IT Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Thankyou for your prompt response. My question was how do we launch EWP automatically as soon as the user logs in. This is probably a Windows one not EWP. Sorry, if I have not been clear in my earlier post.

Sorry, if I have not been clear in my earlier post. We use a GPO login script at user level to run a .bat file that copies the exam write pad software to a local area on the machine and then run the exe. 1

Sorry, if I have not been clear in my earlier post. Just stick the shortcut in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp 1

Please note that if you wish for dates to becorrectly spoken make sure the year is specified in 4 digits, not 2 digits. ● FIXED: When Narrator is speaking, the AutoBackup and AutoSave timers would still run when there is no need to. ● FIXED: Narrator would wait for 2-3 seconds, once finished speaking, this has now been identified and removed. ● FIXED: CIE has changed its name and is now abbreviated as CAIE, this change has been reflected throughout EWP. ● FIXED: When selecting CIE (or now CAIE) Form 2 Scribe coversheet was not disabled. mavhc Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Small point, install EWP, run the GUI editor, it suggests I open the default json file. Made all the changes, can't save because access denied to Program Files.

Do you have permission to modify the file if you open it in notepad and change a value?
mavhc Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 This is a permission issue on the computer by the sounds of it. Do you have permission to modify the file if you open it in notepad and change a value? It's in Program Files, so not unless the program is run as elevated, which it didn't. It's more of a lack of Save-As button, or a design issue where it wants you to load a default config file, but the only one you have the first time you install it won't work.
RLR Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 I've noticed that if you make a change to your file and go to print straight away, the changes you made in the last few seconds don't appear on the print out. It's as if you have to wait 10+ seconds before going to print.

It's as if you have to wait 10+ seconds before going to print. I’ve noticed this too, but more like 1-2 seconds, but I suppose that depends on the size of file. I will do some testing on it, to see if I can speed up the process or see why it takes seconds to copy one TextControl contents to another.

It's more of a lack of Save-As button, or a design issue where it wants you to load a default config file, but the only one you have the first time you install it won't work. I see what you mean, but if you load it from the location it is in then you would expect to save it back three too, 99% of the time. But what I can do is catch the exception at which it cannot write and then pop up with a save as dialog window for now then have a look at changing it longer term to something else.

I’ve now sorted out this issue and it relates to the TextControl used, so I’m limited but it control but managed to fudge it to work 100% when display the correct preview. I will release it tomorrow after further testing, if you wish to test it also, please drop me a PM with your email address. Thanks
Techie-v2 Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Talking of printing, have been doing some testing today ready for next week and I cant print anything from EWP. When clicking on print, I am greeted with a box that says "You cannot print because you have no printers installed." - I dot have many printers installed if I go to Devices and printers and one set as default. If I clock on close on the error, it leave me at the print preview page with a bank page, which I can sent to me default printer (or another one selected from the list), and it comes out blank, but when I go back to the design tab, all me testing writing is there. Thanks in advance for any clues as to why this is happening.

Techie-v2 Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Yeah thats the one I've got now. Its letting me print ok. Can I just confirm with you, last exam series I installed it using the msi on each of the laptops to be used but this time ive gone for the ZIP file, extracted it to a network share and created a shortcut to the exe file, with my config loaded in the parameters as well. Is this ok for multiple people to access at once, its not going to lock files to a certain user? Thanks

Thanks I would never say never, and always air on the side of caution, but please do your own testing with regards your own setup. What we do here is to, at each logon, download a copy from the network and launch it from the local disk. The script we use can be located here if you so wish to view it: https://github.com/sheldog17/Scripting-Snippets/blob/main/ExamWritePad-Launcher.vbs

I have now put in place after the permission denied error message a SaveAs dialog window so you get the option to save it to somewhere else. It will be released in the next version in a few days. 1

EWP can be opened from the same location (as long as it's on a server network share - not a workstation - for concurrent connection limits) and I've forced it to force the user to save the document immediately to their home folder before starting the exam, meaning the file they're editing it not accessible to anyone else.
