Fraserb82 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Hi, Does anyone know if Promethean offer site licences? or are we limited to the one key that comes with the board? I can see this causing issues for PC rebuilds/PC replacements etc. Thanks in advance.
fredbayker Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 We have a site licence or use a registration key that seems to work fine- I assume it’s a site licence we’re using but can’t say for sure as I wasn’t involved in the purchase.
XiJ Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Can you purchase a site / multi use licence for 3rd party screens ? (Sorry to hijack the thread)
snagrat Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Can you purchase a site / multi use licence for 3rd party screens ? (Sorry to hijack the thread) No you need to buy per screen. But it’s about £500 if I recall 1
XiJ Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 No you need to buy per screen. But it’s about £500 if I recall Thanks. Yes when I last tried it seemed to be in the high side (!). I’ll never quite understand smart / promethean business model (other than to try and drive sales to their hardware of course).
phillyrovers Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Hi all, ActivInspire licencing from the outset appears to be a complicated beast, but in reality it really isn't. I'll answer @Fraserb82's question first: Do we offer site licences: Yes, these are available via any of our resellers. Are you limited to the one key that comes with the board: The answer to this one will allow you to determine if you require to purchase additional licenses or not. When you purchase a Promethean Front of Class Device (qualifying ActivBoards, ActivPanels etc) you are provided FOR EACH DEVICE a single user licence for ActivInspire Professional, however this single user licence allows you to install ActivInspire onto x2 machines, 1 to drive the device, and another for preparation work. So if you have x10 ActivBoards at your school, you can install ActivInspire onto x20 computers. Now it's worth noting that we do not at this stage monitor when a licence is being used, as that is up to the school to ensure that they compliant with relevant licences that they are using for software. In relation to actually using a licence key, ActivInspire will activate with any valid licence key, and in fact, if you are using a network installer, you can use a single key across your network, so you don't need to enter multiple keys on multiple machines. So you would need to calculate how many qualifying devices you have at he school, times that by 2, then work out how many machines you need to install it onto, then whatever he difference is, is how many licences you would need to purchase. To answer @XiJ's question: Yes we sell a multi user licence for 3rd party screens, you would need to contact one of our resellers, this link contains some useful information around getting in touch with our sales teams, who should point you in the right direction: https://www.prometheanworld.com/en-gb/how-to-buy/ Hope this helps 3

phillyrovers Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 @Andycat - Nope, as this would go against this portion of the licence: "the Software received as part of a Related Purchase is only permitted to be operated with the Promethean Equipment or the Promethean Certified Equipment with which it was purchased. The Software is not permitted to be operated with any other 3rd party Interactive Display Devices." So if you have received ActivInspire as part of a related purchase (through an ActivBoard/ ActivPanel for example) then you cannot use it with any other 3rd party interactive device. If you have bought ActivInspire as a stand alone piece of software however, then you can use it on whatever hardware you want. Thanks 1
Fraserb82 Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 Thank you everyone for your responses. Phillyrover, thank you in particular to you for the detailed explanation. It's good to know we can use a single key with the installer as we will be fitting roughly 70 Promethean V5's in a new school. So this solves a major problem of how we push out ActiveInspire software and activate it.
