Excited and Terrified in equal measure!

How are they going to do the Ships, and more importantly, the Minds...

Consider Phlebas lends itself to a TV series. It is character driven, set against the backdrop of a galaxy-wide conflict, and tells a very personal story.

But what after that? They could do the Player of Games easily enough, but Excession? Probably not.

@Domino What do you think?

Surface Detail or Hydrogen Sonata would be good.

The hydrogen Sonata would be a sad one but yes. It would work I guess. Still there are an awful lot of ship conversations in it.

Surface detail now. That one is excellent. And if they do the ‘Falling Outside the Normal Moral Constraints’ well then I will be very happy.

It would be a dark dark series that one though.

I'm not gonna write it off straight away, but I've concerns about how much they're gonna have to cull or dumb down. I imagine it'll end up being standard sci-fi fare.

Although, that said, The Expanse was pretty well done, but I'm alot more familiar with the source material for this.

I'm also concerned it's coming from the place that brought us "The man in the high castle" (which was soul crushingly dull) and "Preacher" (which was better, but the whole first series was basically the first issue of the comic).

Agreed. There's plenty to root for, but much that may fall foul of what is considered decent television. Iain M Banks never held back from a graphic description.

As for the Expanse. It's a great interpretation, but parts of it did suffer from a TV adaption. Especially the outbreak of alien zombies swarming through Eros in the book but which were reduced to a few leaky humans lying about randomly on the TV show.

At the end of the day each person experiences a book in a certain way, whilst a TV or Movie adaption is only really ever the result of a few peoples interpretation.

I hope whoever it is gets it right.
