newpersn Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 (edited) So, Not long had our annual review... and one of my targets is office 365... How we got access to Office 365 admin center. (includes all the normal stuff) we got odd few people with access to Office products. But its with MS own "onmicrosoft.com" email. and not our <@insertschoolnamehere.gloucs.sch.uk> So... 3s-gtech Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Yup. MS provide a guide on this - you will need to change some DNS records to prove domain ownership. Your actual domain can then be merged with the default onmicrosoft.com one. It's explained beautifully in the O365 control panel under Setup / Domains - this is where you add your own domain in. 1

Just found some of the training videos now. Im sure on who has our domain name. Being or do i just add it to our onsite dns? (i cant see how that works....)

You will need to change some on-site DNS, depending on what services you already use or want to switch over. I didn't switch any services at all, so just needed the record for verifying domain ownership. Your DNS host should be pretty familiar with doing this job! 1

If so create email addresses in AD (I use Bulk AD Users - Bulk Modify ), then install AzureADConnect. You can sync passwords, and have auto login if they're on your domain, which is fun. 2

Email address are already in AD. We currently have onsite exchange (2010) which I think we are planning on moving to 365. (Not ready do that yet as we are unsure on route to take) Just want to get the basics done now like the AD sync and onedrive.

How can i upload shared areas (Q drive is staff only and O drive can be access by pupils (read only but some writable folders, but staff have read/write access) I know its going to take a few days to upload all this data... (on a 100/100mb line....)

Verify ownership of your domains We found the following domains in your on-premises environment and added them to Office 365, and some of these domains still need to be verified. Go to Domains and select Start setup for each domain. Complete only Step 1 – Verify domain in the Add domain wizard. When you're done, return here to continue. .gloucs.sch.uk This domain is non-routable. We don't support this type of domain. Learn more I have verified it and dont understand this now...

You will also need to add records to your external DNS which points Azure back at your domain, this comes later. Otherwise, they have no idea where to look to query your AD.

Do you know which one i need them to add? I did the one to verify the office 365 against our domain. Also i don't want to break our onsite exchange.
3s-gtech Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Don't change your MX record - that's the big one for mail delivery. Then you need to carry on with the Step 1 process for domain verification. If that can't complete, the entry in DNS hasn't been done correctly, or hasn't yet propagated.

Which one (or many) of these do i need to RM?
