Huxy Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) Any advice / documentation on creating tiers in SIMS. SIMS documentation is vague with regarding to creating and administering tiers. I am looking at timetabling across two sites in September. Tiers looks like it could be useful in order to filter pupils on different sites e.g. 7A / 7B could be created that refer to NCY 7. Site A pupils to be part of 7A and site B pupils to be part of 7B. Tiers will also allow staff to be filtered in cover as well. My worry is going from our current structure to this one would cause problems. Has anyone done this before? If so how do you then tag pupils in under Academic Management? I have also been thinking about the timetable in NovaT across two sites. I had a demo of the multiple Timetables upgrade but not sure if this would cause more problems. Does anyone know if you are able to create 2 models in NovaT that refer to the same NCY. See screen shot below: If so then I could keep site A and B seperate, send the timetable over and then tag pupils into Site A or B as base bands (I think they will appear as totally seperate bad in Academic Management) and then tag each block individual below each of the base bands? Any ideas / suggestions? Thanks Edited February 10, 2018 by Huxy
PhilNeal Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Tiers are designed to allow schools that have distinct prep & main schools to have one database but separate timetables. Staff are normally allocated to a single tier but some staff such as chaplains can be shared. Pupils are in tiers according to their year group. HR & Finances are shared.
3s-gtech Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 We use tiers for a two-site school. Absolutely ideal. Pupils are associated to the tier, staff are assigned to either or both. Timetable is done as one big school, with room names labelled for the split.
Huxy Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 Thaks for your responses. How would you recommend creating a timetable across two sites. Would you do it as a seperate band with a NCY? Do both sites have to have the same lesson times... start and finish?
3s-gtech Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Ours are done with one large timetable, as if all classes and students were on one site. Same lessons times, breaks etc. Not sure what an NCY is.
