6Foot2 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Link: Mirror buys Express titles from Richard Desmond - BBC News The owner of the Daily Mirror has agreed to buy the company behind titles including the Daily Express, the Daily Star and magazines such as OK!... Great, now close them all down! 2
happytech Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I don’t know how to embed videos so I’ll just paste the link here and hopefully it works... I don’t read the papers mentioned (or any other paper as it goes), but they have a right to their opinions as much as any other media company. Just because you and others may not agree with their views, doesn’t mean they are wrong!
unixman_again Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 This was really badly reported on BBC breakfast this morning, when Naga Munchetty said that he was buying the Express and Star. "What, one of the last independent newspapers is closing!", as I spat a mouth full of cornflakes across the room. I have since found out what is really going on. The Express & Star is safe and the only decent paper in the Midlands - The Birmingham Fail is a joke and the Post isn't far behind.
CAM Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Viz has more credibility for truthful journalism than the Daily Star. The Daily Express pushed something into my headline feed about Putin being on the verge of declaring first contact with aliens. I don't think either publication would be missed if they were shut down. 2

The BBC did correct that mistake in later reporting by explaining it wasn't the Midlands paper that had been bought. 1
localzuk Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Interesting, given the right wing slant of Desmond's titles, and the left wing slant of the Mirror.
stevejp Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Interesting, given the right wing slant of Desmond's titles, and the left wing slant of the Mirror. Mind you (and going back to the BBC's mistake) the Express and Star is so far to the right, it makes the Daily Express look positively communist!
unixman_again Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Great comment on the BBC news website about this "Celebrity magazines, OK!, New! and Star....are for people who have no IQ reading about people with No IQ who have succeeded through sheer luck back stabbing and getting naked."
mikeprice Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Hope they don't change the Daily Express too much I love looking at it to find out how the world is going to end today and the latest 'facts' that prove the world is flat and it is fun comparing their version of news to other sites I could probably do the same with the Mail - but there are limits

Where else can you get up to the minute coverage?! 2
Dos_Box Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 You missed the latest updates on Princess Diana. Where else can you get up to the minute coverage?! I was imagining headlines like 'Jeremy Corbin predicts snowmageddon and it's all the Tories fault'.
sparkeh Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) I don’t read the papers mentioned (or any other paper as it goes), but they have a right to their opinions as much as any other media company. Just because you and others may not agree with their views, doesn’t mean they are wrong! Yep, and we have a right to express our opinion on those papers. My own opinion is that that are garbage and I hope they either change direction or close. The Express has 3 basic headlines: 1) *insert remainer group* in secret plot to derail Brexit 2) Wonder cure for *insert medical condition* found 3) Some spurious claim about Diana Edited February 10, 2018 by sparkeh 2

sparkeh Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 4) *Insert current year* will be the hottest summer since records began. True! Ok maybe 5 5) Outrage as foreign aid pays for *insert misreported foreign aid scheme* 2
stevejp Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) 4.5) *insert current winter* to be coldest since records began -Britain to shiver in polar temperatures. Edited February 10, 2018 by stevejp 2
mikeprice Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Oh come on - pay attention guys (and gals) what about 6) World to end TOMORROW - this is why 7) Scientist predicts that {insert silly idea based on one sentence from summary of complex research here} 8) and generic scare medical story - today's special seems to be "Do you have a curved pe**s? Five symptoms that indicate you have Peyronie’s disease" and other stuff 2

elsiegee40 Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 There’s more diversity in Express headlines than I thought [emoji23]
stevejp Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 There’s more diversity in Express headlines than I thought [emoji23] ... but all on the same general theme....
