Hi Steve. I mean the VirtualBox built-in shared folder (N:\), which is essentially the current logged on users network home directory.

Did you disable UAC within the VM? I know there used to be an issue with it not accepting the shared folder as a valid area when it procced even if you ran it as admin within the VM.

I hadn't before but have just disabled UAC and restarted the VM, unfortunately still the same error

I'm assuming you do know the setup you did works outside a VM? Just mean before going too far into the VM side of things.

 

Just if you're talking ASP etc it links into IIS/SDKs etc doesn't it where Win32 exes etc don't. (or did you say it does work fine on the OS drive within the VM?)

 

In regards to the UAC side did you disable it via Registry rather than the slider as that doesn't remove it entirely? (Could also be linked to the IIS permissions if it can't read the shared folders)

I'm not Au fait at all with programming/setup. Everything works fine on the OS drive within the VM. It's when trying to create/save onto the shared folder. However, if I manually map a drive within VM to the documents folder, it works fine, but can't have this, as the point is to have no access to the network.

 

Are you saying that shared folder/visual studio works fine for you? Googling the issue seems to suggested the following:

 

GA Shared Folders are NOT a full implementation of file share, so things will break. It is only a mean to easily access files from host to guest, no use it as a workspace location for dev programs.

Use a real network share instead.

 

How about the students save and work on the OS drive and then copy back the Project folder back the shared folder? The would obviously have to do this every time.

Ours is on an SSD dangling off a NAS on USB3 and serves 60 concurrent users fine (windows 7 as the VM guest)

 

Did you map a drive or just point the batch file to the share?... I can't get ours working via just the share.

 

Also, how is everyone getting around having to sign-in with a Microsoft account once the 30 day trial expires?

Sign up for office 365 for free, install azure ad connect, sync users and passwords, now everyone has a ms account which will auto login if you set that up too

What trial are you referring to? You should be using full windows under your license (As you're allowed to run a VM) so can use MAK keys etc within the VM.

Sorry, I should have said Visual Studio trial... we have auto login for student accounts but it's not passed through to the VM.

Ah, never used the trial versions. We either used the Express installs (One off activation) or the proper license keys for bits.

Ok, thanks... the only one I can find now requires a microsoft account including the express
