discoveranother Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Hi Would just like to ask a question about IT Support Companies who go to businesses advising them that they can provide a faster and cheaper broadband service than they already have. How can they do this or are they just simply going to another broadband provider or acting as a reseller ? Thanks.
Edu-IT Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I’d say its just typical sales. Always do your homework and check what they are proposing to supply and at what cost.
discoveranother Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Yes I thought so, I can't see how it can be any other way. These companies can't be laying their own cables to provide the service !!! I have seen some of these companies install their own routers, to provide filtering etc to the businesses and state that they are providing the broadband. They must be acting as a reseller, making money from the customer and paying a smaller cost back to the broadband provider I would assume.
Meldrew Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 We as a school provide this to local primary schools (we're a reseller) and we are cheaper than the broadband they already have (even taking a reasonable profit into account). In many cases broadband providers do make excessive profit (or maybe have sky high costs), so its possible these IT providers can do what they say. As @Edu-IT says, however get quotes, check particularly for on-going support and maintenance costs and how long the contract is for and exit penalty costs. HTH, Meldrew
discoveranother Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 Thanks Meldrew for the reply. If I may ask, so how do you provide cheaper broadband then, i'm not asking to know your secrets, just wondered how this happens. What can you install that is different from a broadband provider ? The broadband still comes via a provider. I'd like to know more. Please send me an email, not sure if you provide a service beyond Cornwall.
