Age of your oldest (production) server?

Yeah, those were the days where everthing lived on blanking plates, and if one port was damaged you could get another and keep going unlike todays "oops its bent now bin it" society

Think our oldest was just approaching 7 Years but its out of commission now (summer 05). Currently the oldest is 3 years but thats being decommissioned this summer where it will be 4 years old.

 

 

Lets just say it runs 2 Quake III Servers, and they hold 40 a server, and at lunch times they both become "full"

 

Are those servers populated by kids or do you have a full internet connection?

Would love to do that myself just to give them a pasting but a full version of Q3 sitting on network shared to multiple kids at lunch doesnt sound good

Populated by kids of course. They are getting very good at it now, we have beat the teacher challenges.

We're still running an old RM RX P2 333Mhz 256mb ram machine as our email server I think it was bought 8 years ago but I'm not sure how long it was on the shelf at RM. Starting to develop problems now though so i'll be commissioning a new meail system this summer after the complete replacement of all things server wahoo! Well except SIMS not really necessary and the LEA paid for it

 

Thing looks like a fridge funny really could probably fit a couple of motherboards in it (Mini ITX) and create a real beast lol

Our oldest is our fileserver, about 2 years old and being replaced very shortly (when I finish it) with a shiny new HP dual Xeon system. Infact I am currently replacing 6 of the 10 servers with 4 shiny new dual Xeon systems. I will then have all my servers under a year old.

 

I like the quake server idea, I might run a CS Source server instead, never was a fan of quake.

Lucky for some my youngest server is about 6 months old sims about 2 years and the rest 4 - 8 years lucky lucky #'#;#@@@@ ***** **^%$&*$* *&%$*$*%$( *(&%(%(&^% )*)*)&$%£^%£%*& - Thought I better edit that lol I will hopefully be in that position come the new Autumn Term!

We just got Science College Status and the school got a massive injection of cash because of it. Management basically said to us "Here is some money, spend it as you will" so I spent about £8000 in new servers and equipment

 

We have had loads of cash spent on us and general ICT equipment in the last year. We've had a new fibre ring (£12000), new servers and UPS (£8000), new office (£lots), new aircon (£7000), new projectors and whiteboards (£I dread to think) and I'm looking to spend even more in April

Well just had a new office partitioned from our main IT computer room nice and big it is too! The electrics were done to my spec and I cabled the network sockets so we have plenty of expansion available. This year hopefully new servers, new classroom of Desktops, a mobile classroom and expansion of an existing mobile classroom, Air Con in IT1,IT2, My Office/Comms Room and Resources (All very hot in the spring/summer!), new software for email and remote access, VPN system to be implemented by our LEA by summer, new storage server/NAS/SAN new UPS old ones to be fitted in switch cabinets, new fibre links in a star network/bus network topology, upgrade finally to Office 2003 (if at all possible/viable seeing as thenew version is soon released!) Ghost and Deep freeze, proper RIS system, finally removing RM, new switches and hopefully a much more stable system. Has anyone heard that the new SIMS .NET release in the summer may need a minimum of Office 2003 to work? Heard this from an LEA support guy but not sure?

I bought Deepfreeze 5 weeks ago, not got round to installing it yet, looks good though. My plans for this year are:

 

32 pc room rekit, new base units and tft's.

Set up wireless network to take 64 mobile laptops so we have 2 floater units of 32.

 

Thats all the mjor things I will be able to fit in this year, alongside VLE's emails for kids and all the other junk Jake and I have to do.
