vfong1982 Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 (edited) Hi, I'm rather confused why the Smart Learning Suite package 17.0.1 won't install on a particular set of Windows 10 computers. I created a deployment which inserts all the relevant install options including the license key on several other machines, but on these particular ones, the installer bombs out "Warning: Nothing has been selected to be installed. At least one product must be selected." Despite this message, I have Smart Notebook, Gallery Essentials and Lesson Activity Toolkit checked. I have also tried it without the Transforms file, and I still get the same result. There is no existing installation on this either. This makes no sense! Edited January 22, 2018 by vfong1982
atcoates Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 What does it say in event viewer? Also there are a few pre reqs that will cause the install to fail if not present. https://support.smarttech.com/docs/software/notebook/notebook-17/en/installing-and-maintaining/computer-requirements/default.cshtml
vfong1982 Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 Nothing seems to be outstandingly obvious from a brief scan of the event logs during the period I tried to install it. I also can't see what is different between the computers that can install without a problem.
Rob_D Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Are you setting all your options with msi transforms for product key and activation and the like?I've found that to be rather hit and miss. Using the Smart install manager to make an mst with all settings in has been more reliable for us.
vfong1982 Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 Yep - that's what I used to create the transform. But it's highly unusual for the MSI installer on it's own to fail with the same message even without a transform applied. The transform has been applied to over 200 other machines, and it installs the license key and activation code without an issue.
Rob_D Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 You've checked there's no Smart already installed on the PC? If it's not fresh install, it might be worth running the smart cleanup utility.
KarlGoddard Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Have you tried running the msi from the cmd line and creating a log to see where the mis fails? add this to the command line /L*V "C:\error.log"
RossCummingsOneIT Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Bit of a guess but i had a similar issue on windows 7 machines but it was related to a specific windows update not being installed on the problematic machines. had it recently too where it didnt install on one or two 10 machines and decided to just do it manually!
sparkeh Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Might want to check the requirements here: https://support.smarttech.com/docs/software/notebook/notebook-17/en/installing-and-maintaining/computer-requirements/default.cshtml and that .net is the right version (4.5.1)
