Start Menu Folder redirection

Hi,

 

I am setting up a Windows 10 build for a primary and they have a redirected start menu. What they'd like is for the Windows 10 start menu not to be there so get rid of all the W10 apps in the start menu and just leave the redirected one. I've been through Group Policy but Can't find one that works.

 

Any ideas?

Removing the apps from the Start Menu needs you to remove them from the install/user - either at WIM level pre-install or post-install.

You can't just 'block' them from showing unfortunately!

You can export a customize startup layout menu to an xml format. This will just show your apps which appear in the text of the xml which i presume you just need.

This will show you a powershell command to export the file, then you can insert into your group policy for user which you want to apply to them.

Unfortunately, not all of the apps can be removed as they are part of the OS. You can get rid of the vast majority though using the Powershell script mentioned above.

The Group Policy bit that will remove most of the regular items like Windows administrative tools, Windows accessories etc is 'Remove common program groups from Start Menu'. Start with that and see what you have got left.

The only issue I've had with the Remove common program groups from Start Menu policy is that it removes the standard installed programs like Office etc. Which may not be a problem for you but we leave them all on and remove the unwanted ones before imaging.

We put the office icons through redirected start menu and desktop. Alot easier to control that way.
