Dead spot top left of brand new smartboard, resolution issue.

Hi People,

Quick question wondered if anyone else has come across it. We recently installed a new smartboard M600 into a room with an Epson EB-X20 projector. Problem is the board has a dead spot in the top left and therefore I can't orient it as it won't let me click the first point. However if I change the resolution to 1280:800 on the PC, which I believe is 16:9 native, which is what the projector supports it's fine but the image is then letter boxed and doesn't fill the smartboard. I can't seem to find a way around this. I've tried all sorts of combinations of resolutions/aspect ratios and basically if the image takes up all of the smartboard the top left of the board is unusable. The EB-X20 is ceiling mounted on a pole and is maybe 3-4 metres away. Is the projector the problem here as we have the smartboard else where but with wall mounted short throw projectors, namely the EB-480 and Lightrise 60wi and we have no issues. Any ideas? Looking at the picture on Smart it shows the board with a short throw wall mounted one which worries me and confirms my suspicions to a degree. Using Windows 10 Edu 64 1607 build by the way, but I don't think that's relevant to the problem.

Thanks Guys,

I thought I'd post here to get a quick response as I break up today for two weeks, so there isn't much point in logging a call with Smart. Also the more I read up on this problem I do believe I am correct in thinking that the EB-X20 only supports 16:9 where as the board is designed 16:10 so there is a mismatch.

The EB-x20 is natively 4:3 (XGA)

Have you ran the SMART diagnostic tools? We had a similar issue and it turns out one of the cameras was dud. Just curiosity too, how come you're fitting new IWBs as opposed to touchscreens?

No not yet. I'll give it a go. We do have quite a few of the new Smart TV's, they're great but expensive, you're talking about £3500 per room. Plus we only had four days in the holiday at an already busy time of year. Thanks for the help guys by the way.

You could try swapping it into a room with a working board, but I don't see how it could be anything to do with the projector. Did you have a board and projector in that position before? Sometimes cables in the wall can affect Smart Boards.

And really don't buy any more. It's a false economy. If you can't afford the Smart touch panels, look at different makes - there are plenty around for the same kind of price as you would have paid for a traditional Smart Board and projector. They're not difficult to install - easier than a projector anyway.

I wouldn’t be wasting time...it’s new....get smart to fix or replace it....or tell your supplier you will be returning it. Of course..it’s possible you damaged it yourself if you did the install.... I hear the “why not buy a panel” cry. The problem is that teachers really like a large screen, 95inch promethean given a free choice and while they are expensive they are not nearly as expensive as large panels. And replacement projector lamps are no longer the cost they once were. It’s a bit like why don’t I buy an electric car...I’d love to, but anything affordable is tiny and has limited range...and anything that would be a useful size and range is twice the cost or more..

Hi

I work with Ben and thought you might like to know the solution to this issue. The board was in a maths room and they had a clock with led lights plugged in at the front of the class. It seems the lights from this were bouncing back from the glass windows of the cupboards at the back of the room. Turned the clock off and all was ok again!! We sent the diagnostics report to smart and from that they asked about lights, specifically led lights which led us to spot the clock.
