For me it has to be persona 5 just loved it since i started playing and got me into playing number 4 aswell

Same here (although I was playing Persona 4: Golden before getting 5).

I've played quite a few of the megaten games over the years, with SMT: Nocturne, Raidou Kuzhunoa vs , Catherine and the Digital Devil Saga, P4Arena: ultimax and P4.

While I do love 4, I have to say P5 has so much style and polish, it's been quite a while since I've loved a game to this extent.

My main love was the real kind of story and issues they had such as the first boss. it just added to the awesome art style and game mechanics. I'm currently playing through p4 golden now but i have seen allot of the story through the anime but not all of it.

i do want to play p4 but not enough to buy a vita for though i suspect as p5 did so well it will probably get a ps4 port (or hopefully switch but i think persona is a ps exclusive series)

Can PUBG be a game of the year when it hasn't actually been released yet as it's incomplete and only a Preview?!

pc version went to 1.0 late december

Even if it didn't, we could say it's the Game of the Year 2017 that you have played. ;)

I don't think I have played many modern games that came out in 2017, but the best game that I played in 2017 was a visual novel called The House of Fata Morgana, great story line. First game I have actually posted a review on Steam for.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony1: Persona 5

2: DDLC (Doki Doki Literature Club, a lovely (yet incredibly dark) visual novel).

3: Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

(Mostly japanese styled games here, that's me in a nutshell xD)

PUBG can't possibly be game of the year when it's a buggy unoptimised mess. The gunplay isn't even all that good! (IMHO) What annoys me is that they've had plenty of time to spend their millions (£25 per user, up front) and they've added a couple of new guns and that's about it.

Mario odyssey tops my list, played it non-stop over Christmas have 500+ moons and still playing. Though the last bit of the game made me want to chuck the switch across the room a couple of times.

PUBG was a waste of 26.99 imo. I have no idea why it's so popular.

My games of the year has to be Hollow Knight. After being so decidedly 'meh' about metroidvanias since I was about 12, Hollow Knight really re-ignited my love for them. The artstyle is fantastic, the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal, and there's enough kinda-hidden-but-not-required content to scratch my completionist itch.

@Domo PUBG's popular because the mechanics behind the gameplay are relatively simple but leave a lot to change between games. Even if you do the same tactic over and over, games are always different, and the mechanics are simple enough that you can figure them out (find gun, shoot not-friends) but can be silly levels of complex once you get stuck in (psychology, do I shoot or bide my time, etc). The game needs a lot of work. Graphics are so-so, the netcode is utter trash, but if nothing else PUBG stands testament to the fact that you need good mechanics more than anything else in a game.

It's :censored: to play on your own, though. Always with friends. Even if @bald_pig does capsize motorboats.
