WSUS permissions issue for remote content?

Hi,

We've installed WSUS on a windows server 2012 box but want to host the downloads on an an older 2008 server due to disk space considerations.

 

When configuring this we appear to get a permissions issue on the remote server despite trying all sorts e.g. giving full access to the WSUS content directory.

 

The error we get in the event viewer after running wsusuutil checkhealth is as follows and this is after trying several combinations of paths and permissions in the IIS server. I've tried mapping the remote directory as a drive (W) and also tried the full \\hostname\directory in the configuration but it still ends up as appearing to be a permissions issue.

 

Any ideas appreciated :-)

The WSUS content directory is not accessible.

Why not just install wuss on the 2008 box

Is the 2008 box a physical server with loads of hdd in.

If so reinstall it with a 2012 or 2016 box. Add the wsus role. If you have gp targeting. Change the group policies to suit.

 

Don’t give it the same name or ip.

 

I would give it a new server name and IP address

 

Relatively straight forward. Download (should say sync) all the updates and restart all the machines and let them check in.
