Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 (edited) The default for capita.simslabs.clients.management.Configuration.json simply contains { "Schools": [] } More gets added to it as you install and configure things Edited January 11, 2018 by Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun
kennysarmy Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 The default for capita.simslabs.clients.management.Configuration.json simply contains More gets added to it as you install and configure things I sorted it. SIMS LEA Support were useless and the documentation was not very clear...but once I'd actually configured SIMS Service Manager with the text from the email I generated it all fell in to place - the Data Manager is now logged in! All done before the LEA get back to me with what to do next!
BKGarry Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Stupid question time: Has anyone played with the Student and Parent Accounts, do you know if one gives views of the other or something, we are looking at generating student accounts to allow the students to choose the options but there is nothing really in the documentation about these two accounts
MrMat Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Stupid question time: Has anyone played with the Student and Parent Accounts, do you know if one gives views of the other or something, we are looking at generating student accounts to allow the students to choose the options but there is nothing really in the documentation about these two accounts I had a brief play yesterday. The pupil account does exactly what it says on the tin. It allows the pupils to login and choose their options. It's actually really quite nice etc. But we couldn't get the Parent one to work. The user was set up in the Admin and the Parent permission box was ticked etc but it just wasn't playing ball. Whenever i tried to log in it just said that i didn't have permissions to view anything. In honesty I don't actually think it's set up yet as there's no mention of Parent accounts in any of the Capita documentation.
BKGarry Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 @MrMat Thank you for that, Yeah I have the feeling that it for some other service, that is a shame, as I would have hoped that they could at least view it.
BKGarry Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Just found KB-477636 on Capita My Account with states this The parent site is due for release in January 2018, this will be read only at sims-options.co.uk. The page will only display the choices the Pupil has made. The Pupil site is now available and will only allow pupils to make choices when the PLAN is made ACTIVE by the Options Administrator. At this point Pupils can go online at sims-options.co.uk and make their choices. Once the Options Administrators move the PLAN into REVIEW then pupils will only see their choices online as read only, and will not be able to make any changes.
MrMat Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 @MrMat Thank you for that, Yeah I have the feeling that it for some other service, that is a shame, as I would have hoped that they could at least view it. Yeah i thought the same. A simple read only version of the pupil account would be really nice so the parents could hop on for a quick look.
JRA Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 So, I'm a about to ask probably the daftest set of questions in the world, but our SLT here want this, have sent me an email welcoming me to SIMS Online Services (erm, thanks?) and I've got no idea what it is but they sure do want it up and running! I'm guessing we install some patches on our SIMS server, then parents/students etc visit some Capita website somewhere, log in goodness-knows how, then set their options for the coming year. That vaguely right? What even is this...
bobsmith Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 You're pretty much bang on the money - except there's only certain accounts they can use to login, so office365, google, facebook, twitter or microsoft. Some poor bugger also has to invite them first. Oh - and SIMS best have their details recorded properly or they won't even get an account Their account will also work on sims parent app if you've got that. 1
JRA Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Thanks bobsmith! Well, pressed ahead with it and it's all up now to the point where our (so far) only trained MoS can get going with it. For anyone reading do take the time (like I didn't) to properly read and absorb the whole Options Online Setup Guide, which is quite good. 1
tj2419 Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 We are getting this set up now. Can anyone who is using it tell me (as we have already got subject choices from students) can sims options allow us to input the choices for the students then help us to build the options blocks, so the most students get their first choices? Otherwise does anyone have any snazzy ways of doing this as I have been tasked to help and no one seems to know how it was done before. Cheers
