korifugi Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 However - if you want to use your gaming console controller on PC, you can also use a PS4 controller as they work as well. ...I'll stop muddying the waters now.
flyinghaggis Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 (edited) The obvious answer to this question is that you should buy both an Xbox one and a PS4! Plus a switch for the Nintendo exclusives and portable play Just noticed that you can get a PS4 pro with a game for only £300 right now. That's only £75 more than the base ps4 and is £150 less than the Xbox X. Seems like the best option IMO if you cant decide. There isn't really much between the PlayStation and Xbox overall especially in non pro/X varieties. The switch is cool but I wouldn't want it as my only gaming platform unless you already have a gaming PC or another console for the major releases. Edited December 6, 2017 by flyinghaggis
Localtechie Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 I have an Xbox but I think the PS4 is the far better console in terms of exclusive games (last of us, uncharted, horizon and more on the horizon). The Xbox however has a much better online interface and also is a better media player if your wanting one device for all your media consumption. If I was buying now I would get the PS4.
sted Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 The xbox one s is a great value option. You can get them for sub £200 with a controller (controller can be used on your gaming PC via Bluetooth) and minecraft (which could also be used in Windows). They have 4k HDR support for Blu-ray and streaming services like Netflix and amazon (also atmos sound). This may not be needed now but it's nice to have the option, simply as a media player it could justify it's price. i thought the controller needed a dongle to be used on windows boxes (i have one but then 2/3 of my controllers are pre bluetooth) but i thought bluetooth was purely for audio (you can just use a usb lead though and use it as a wired controller
Superted Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 I am in the same situation of looking for a treat for myself. Been looking at the switch as the Mrs liked the Wii
sted Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 if i could only have 1 now (and now the switch has been out a year its easier to include that) i think the order id buy them in is switch - ps4 - xbox one(but probably a games pc if i could stretch to it see further down) but it really depends on what games you want. i cant think of many reasons to get an xbox one atm there are currently few exclusives and all of those (at least 1st party ones) work on pc anyway so if you have a decent pc and a ps4 an xbox is a waste of time (and this is someone who bought a one x (and a ps4 pro) and has been in the ms console ecosystem since the og xbox as much as i hate to say it its an also ran this generation and i fully expect the switch to overtake it in sales) again its all personal preference but games from last year i enjoyed most in approximate order xenoblade chronicles 2 (switch) ~290 hours still playing on and off persona 5 (~200 hours and am currently replaying for trophies) ps4 nier automata (ps4) zelda botw (switch) ghost recon wildlands (xbox but its on pc/ps4) splatoon 2 (switch) mariokart 8dx (switch) as others have said controllers can be an issue id rather use an xbox controller than a switch pro and ps4 controller id rather not use at all as ive never got on with dual shocks but the latest versions i hate less
ShellfishClive Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 It's all personal peference in the end I would choose PS4 over Xbox anyday though, far better games and people online seem to be alot nicer on PS4 compared to Xbox.
2097 Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 I would say buy neither . Buy a good PC ( or upgrade current) and get Oculus . VR is great ( echo arena is a great FREE game ) and the controllers are brilliant and really immerse you into the game .
flyinghaggis Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 The PS4 is the more powerful, better designed/built system and has VR support whereas the Xbone has 720p, Kinect and no exclusive games (since they're now all available on PC). Easy decision IMO and I say that as someone who owns both systems
DalekSec Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 If i had to choose between the Xbone and the PS4 (and not being able to have a PC) i would have a Switch. Been an Xbox player since day 1 of the original, but have now packed it away as moved over to PC gaming and replaced it with a Switch which i adore!
HTCPCP Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 I got a PS4 - simply because it was free with my phone! How much do I use it? I think I have used it to watch the odd BluRay on my tele, and GT4 a couple of times, but apart from that I haven't!
thimon Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 PS4, always been a PlayStation fan boi. A lot of the time it's just used to watch Netflix, YouTube, Prime, etc. However just got FarCry 5, so much fun!
matt40k Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 The PS4 is the more powerful, better designed/built system and has VR support whereas the Xbone has 720p Tell that to my 4k Xbox One X 2

Easy decision IMO and I say that as someone who owns both systems VR on the PS4 compared to the PC is like having a Dacia Sandaro instead of a Lambo! If you want powerful you go for the XBox X. VR is a gimmick i've found, i have a rift it looks nice and is fun for a few weeks but wears off fast!, only use it to show people now. If you have a PC and game on it along with a console then XBox is the better bet again due to cross purchases etc. The only way i see people buying PS4 is either they're friends play on it or the exclusives. I don't have any friends on PS4 and they're exclusives do nothing for me. The switch on the other hand.... MARIO ODYSSEY IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
flyinghaggis Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 (edited) I'm just baiting the fanboy's to be fair I have a Switch, Xbox One , Playstation 4 and a slightly older PC. In the OP's situation I'd still recommend a PS4 over the others but they're all decent systems and all have their own merits. Edited April 10, 2018 by flyinghaggis
matt40k Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 LOL, I bought the xbox because I wanted to just game - the irony that you still have to wait for it to install, then update! I think I liked about the xbox one x was the PC equalive was insane - it's £440 for the xbox vs £440 for JUST the graphic card at the moment! Not that I really need that power to play split screen minecraft! Heck the son started playing on the old PC and connecting in (love they finally done that!)
Dos_Box Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I have an Xbox One S and Switch. I must admit, the Switch gets far more play time from me. My son uses the XBO primarily for Fortnite. My old PC which has and SSD, 8GB DDR2 and a Core 2 Quad also gets a lot of use from him, especially since I put a GTX 1050 in there and gave it a whole new lease of life. I can even play Elite Dangerous on there on full graphic settings with no problems. Who'd thought that you can still game on a system like that!
