We buy the office Pro plus licences which cost nothing, I believe it's based on you having these licenses on your tenant before they will add your domain to the A1 pro licenses.

I don't believe that is correct. Geting the A1+ is based on you having a volume agreement for Office (eg via OVS-ES)

See my post here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/190626-office-365-a1-plus-faculty-licences-missing.html#post1692150

My advice is to take screenshots of the relevant MS pages saying that you are entitled and giving them your agreement number. As I posted above, it took me a really, really long time to get to the right person so you have to be persistent.

I've had a ticket open with O365 suport via the admin centre since 03/07/2019. The only response (other than the odd automated "we're investigated and will contact you with more information"), I've had a response asking for the following:

The only document we've received is our "Open Value Welcome Letter" when we started our latest OVS-ES agreement. I've sent that to them and not heard anything back yet.

Looks like the letter wasn't enough, as I had this sent to me on Friday:

Please complete the below information and send it back to me, so I can initialize the process for the A1 licenses:

Agreement number:

Country:

State/Region:

City:

Full Institution Name:

Administrator's name:

Administrator's email:

Administrator's best contact phone:

Institution's phone number:

University e-mail domain used for students:

Segment: K-12 or Higher Education:

Acceptance of Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions:

I filled all that in and sent it back and I'm waiting for a response.

That's exactly what's happening to me, because my tenancy has not got access to the A1 Plus license to assign it, even going through the signing up process. That's when I raised with with O365 support and I'm still in that process at the moment.

@CHiLL

City:

Full Institution Name:

Administrator's name:

Administrator's email:

Administrator's best contact phone:

Institution's phone number:

University e-mail domain used for students:

And also one of these documents to be sent to us: Enrollment for Education Solutions, Open Value Subscription Education Solutions, or a school contract agreement."

It does look like they've almost standardised how they do this now. Took me months to get it sorted as it was passed from pillar to post for us!

When I emailed Ben he replied to say they have added our domain to there list, now what's strange is Office 365 just works, you sign in and it becomes licensed. If I look at our licenses I haven't assigned any A1 Plus licenses to any users but it just works. Am assuming it goes off our domain name?

Am still a bit wary that one day they will delete our domain from there servers and everyone won't be able to use Office.

I've rolled out Office 365 to our new staff laptops so if it goes wrong I'll know pretty soon! haha!

Have you tried using one of the Office 365 accounts on multiple computers with Office 365? Our issue is that our students roam around different rooms, so may use in excess of 10 computers in a week. This takes them over the maximum amount of Office 365 installations that they can activatem hence the error. If I install it on staff laptops - they are effectively 1-1 devices and don't run into these issues. It appears to be related to specifically the roaming user (even though Shared Computer is set to enabled during the installation - that doesn't work for Office 365).

I haven't no, do you know what the limit. I wasn't planning on rolling it out for students because of this, my plan was just for staff as they have their own laptop it's 1 to 1 so shouldn't run into this problem in theory.

If I remember correctly you can roam the token license token, that might fix your problem with students?

The shared activation method will get around this issue.

CHiLL said he is using shared computer activation and that's the issue he's facing, am not sure what the limit is on activations but would be interested to know.

Am going to hold off installing for students as they have the potential to log on lots of devices a day, which adds up to a lot over a week.

Although it would seem roaming the activation token might fix this.

Think theres some confusing in this thread.. we are i assume and i am attempting to move away from shared computer activation which i have found is very flaky and move to the better

Office365 ProPlus Device Based Activation

however to this to work we need to ensure microsoft mark our tenant with A1 Plus licences for education .

Shared Activation appears to only be relevant for effectively the old MSI installers, so the Professional Plus versions of office (despite 2019 being a Click-to-Run installer). These Professional Plus versions are activated from your KMS server that has your KMS keys from your VLSC agreement.

Office 365 ProPlus uses your Office 365 licenses, not KMS licenses and is limited to 5 activations per user by default. Not ideal for schools where students will roam around many different computers and exceed the maximum amount of activations. Microsoft are recommending Device Based Activation (DBA) for these situations, though it's only officially supported in the US at the moment. That is what we're having trouble getting activated on our tenancy at the moment.

I've just received another response:

Hello,

I hope this mail finds you well.

It seems that the feature you are trying to achieve is only available for the US.

Even with the A1 plus subscription this will not resolve the encountered technical issue.

Please let me know if I may still go forward with the A1 plus license process.

Looking forward to your reply.

So they're saying DBA won't work outside the US, even with the A1 Plus license. I'm going to get them to proceed with the A1 Plus licensing anyway, incase it does actually work. It's not going to cause us any issues anyway.

This is why it's so confusing with Microsoft and there overly complicated licensing.

Like I've said I've got A1 Plus licenses on my tennat, they are not assigned to anyone but when my users login to Office 365 it activates and works fine. This doesn't take away from the 5 installs you get with the Office 365 ProPlus entitlement.

I haven't as mentioned try to login to 10 different machines to see if am greeted with a big computer says no error.

This is why am wary how my users are licensed and working with Office 365. Ben just said our domain was added to the their list.

100% sure it works, just not supported by microsoft however i know schools using it and its working well.. it will always fall back to shared activation if u set this in the GPO so im not worried.

hope they email me the same later.. this is taking so long to sort..

Did either of you requested your data location set to be in the UK only for GDPR reasons? O365 Admin Centre > Settings > Organisation Profile > Data Location. We're wondering if they're using these location settings to for DBA? It's unlikely, just wanted to rule it out.

I think the agent is confusing "not supported" with "won't work". It works just fine. We use it here.

We are currently set Europe but UK for Sharepoint.

Just want to say finally got this solved today!!!!

we now can licence per device so now at the end of each build we run the following command which reconfigures the installed 365 on the image at activates it.

./OPPTransition.exe -Tenant f*******************-Key ******************* -Domain *******.onmicrosoft.com -NoInstall -NoUninstall -Verbose

i can now finally roll out latest version of 365 using device based activation

Can I ask who solved this for you? I've tried reseller, 365 support, 365EDU support and none of them seem able to add A1 Plus licences to my tenancy!

Try this contact, she has helped she escalated it to the correct team for me. Its taken weeks to resolve but hopefully she will help.
