Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop - Free Alternatives?

I've had a request for 24 seats of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop which is coming in at around £6.5K can anyone suggest a free alternatives that are suitable for the GCSE curriculum?

Gimp is an excellent free alternative to Photoshop

Inkscape would be a good alternative to Illustrator.

 

£6.5k seems a bit expensive for only 24 seats.

Inkscape is ace (I've used both and still like Inkscape) for vector work and GIMP for Photoshop work.

We were quoted £22.87 per seat for our educational Creative Cloud subscription (Adobe P/N: 65277281BB01A12) with a 25 seat minimum.

 

Wouldn't £6,500 work out to £270.83 per seat for 24 licenses?

I've just checked on the Adobe site and it's showing £196 per seat per year.....

I also pay $20-25 something a seat for the full suite, but had a minimum of 100 seats. Worked out to less then $2.5K

 

But I'd also second gimp and inkscape.

I paid £21 per licence last year for 25 licences

We are still using cs4 full suite, site license if I recall cost us at the time 16k

Not much has changed with photoshop since. Not significant to the curriculum anyway

Might be getting the higher pricing because of two things, a) the wrong page, it seems they have 2 education page, b) because you're asking for 24 and 25 is minimum for the cheaper one

If you are dealing directly with Adobe Photoshop users and trying to force GIMP on them (*waves fist at marketing department*) try Gimphoto. It's basically the guts of Gimp stuck into a Photoshop-esque UI.

Not free, but much cheaper and not subscription are Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer which are both very good and can edit Adobe file types. We've decided to revert to an owned version of CS5 after they tried charging us over £150 per seat for CC this year. Longer term I would like to move away from Adobe if at all possible. A fun fact we recently discovered is that they licence Sixth Form and FE Colleges differently, with the latter being much more expensive.
