ADSL Router - home w Guest SSID and Bandwidth control

Firstly, this is a personal, not work, thing so feel free to ignore.

 

Need to get a new router for my sister's B+B in the Highlands. Needs multiple SSID or Guest capabilities, plus some bandwidth options. ADSL, will have a couple of extenders (already there, Edimax ones)

 

My own TP-Link does this but is a cable version (Archer C7) and I wondered if anyone had first hand experience of current ADSL routers that might do what I need before I buy one?

 

Cost is an issue obviously, small business and all that, and they only get 8mb connection at best!

If this was me, I'd leave the router but install a couple of Unifi APs instead.

 

They would be perfect for this - Multiple SSIDs, guest access with bandwidth management. Standard 802.3af POE supported now too, even on the AP-AC-Lites. Nicely expandable too if required at a later date.

 

Not sure what the budget is, but think Unifi APs are good bang for buck.

It might be worth looking at Draytek, they tend to be my go-to for the small businesses.

 

You could also look at a small Unifi set-up, perhaps using a Draytek modem, Unifi USG, Unifi Cloud Key, plus Unifi APs... Although it's hard to say without knowing the size of the site.

Site is a "large " House, 4 bedrooms over 2 floors, with a self catering lodge up the hill, around 20m away but 7m higher than the house. Currently the extenders work fine, but the router is old and basic (Netgear DGN1000)

+1 for unifi. I use the AP and cloud key and router at home and I've never had a problem with them.

Draytek routers will do this, im in the same position as you and managed to get hold of a draytek 2830 router. Broadbandbuyer even have emulators of the draytek equipment for you to test out.
