plock Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Morning all, I require the following hotfix, which I'm unable to acquire from Microsoft until Tuesday! http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939383 Does anyone have any other means of acquiring this before hand? Cheers!

kmount Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Following tech_guys advice, its available on that forum. Linky
plock Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 Indeed, thanks guys for your time! Sadly that hotfix hasn't solved my issue. The Single Instance Storage Groveler won't bloody well start! RIS/WDS won't work! I’m going to go back to SP1 for now I think. Thanks again!

kmount Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Bit of a bugger this one... - I'm stumped. Sorry fella.
plock Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 No worries - thanks mate! I'm at a lost end too!
mac_shinobi Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 just to clarify ... you are trying to get wds or ris to work and the groveler service error you are getting is stopping you from getting it to work ? If not what are you trying to do exactly ?
plock Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 To clarify, the situation is as follows, I have a W2K3 R2 SP1 box, with RIS running along with GHOST, RIS does my PXE boot and GHOST casts the image to multiple clients. Upon upgrading to SP2 at startup I receive an error stating a service wouldn't start. After checking the event log I realise that this service is the "Single Instance Storage Groveler" that is failing. When completing a RISETUP diagnostic, starting the Windows Deployment Services fails. Another log of the "Single Instance Storage Groveler" service is logged in Event Logs. After research this seems to have leaded me to the KB this post refers to, once I had installed that I hoped the issue would resolve itself. This wasn't the case. Anybody else discovered this situation before? Thanks for your time.
markcuk Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 should still be able to boot uses ris without the Single Instance Storage Groveler started.. i had trouble with the same service with 2000 server but ris worked anyway..upgrading to 2003 r2 fixed my problem. have you tried it since the error? mark
plock Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 Havn't but don't like the error being produced when the system starts! hehe I'll check it out.
markcuk Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 if it works without it just make the sure the service doesnt start on boot up:)
plock Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 Nothing like a good old 'bodged' job! I'll check this out this afternoon.
