stevenlong1985 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Message from link2ict P1 Ref: INC0232539: Yesterday a 3rd party contractor working on the Paradise Circus development accidentally cut through a critical fibre cable. This has caused significant service impact - we have worked through the night to identify the location of the break and all efforts are being expended to resolve the service impact as soon as possible.
Michael Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 It's back online as from 10am for all sites.
Michael Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 There are still issues with the transparent proxy however. I have it in every school where one computer will connect transparently, yet another won't (and it worked fine yesterday). This gives the impression connectivity is still down for end users. Manually specify proxy settings - eduproxy.bgfl.org:80 resolves the issue for select users. 1
stevenlong1985 Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 The internet is down again, and they're all on staff training day today! I've tried ringing the emergency phone number but it goes straight to answerphone.
nawbus Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 We are having the same problem. Same in Staffordshire. We use Entrust but they are being slowly merged with BGfL and we're finding anything to do with BGfL turns to carp :-(
andy_b Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 A December summary: 02/12 - No Internet 03/12 - No Internet 04/12 - Internet for about 4 hrs only 05/12 - Internet for about 8 hrs only 06/12 - No Internet until mid afternoon 10/12 - No Internet 11/12 - No Internet 12/12 - No Internet 13/12 - Internet back mid-day ish 15/12 - Slow internet, certificate errors, transparent proxy stopped working mid-day !!!!!!!!!!
andy_b Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Oh, and the internet that we have today is slow...... Even with only 52% utilization.
andy_b Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 "We are aware of an issue with internet access at a number of schools. This is due to a power outage at one of the core data centres. The power company is onsite working to restore power. Once power is restored, services will resume and we apologise for the inconvenience."
Michael Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I also wonder if this has anything to do with BGfL changing filtering provider also? This was scheduled to happen before the end of the year and could be contributory.
