Quatermass Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Lot of issues with this site recently including outage last night - now up, but our logins via LDAP/AD seem broken. Users get taken to a "you're almost there" (non-school specific) signup screen instead. Anyone else using LDAP/AD successfully at the moment? My mood has not been improved by the total lack of phone numbers on their site Edited September 12, 2017 by Quatermass
jbunoomally Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Hi, We confirmed the AD SSO issues with them this morning. Confirmation email from them below; "Thank you for you call just now. As we discussed, we have had a few reports from users who've experienced intermittent issues with Active Directory Single Sign On. We're currently monitoring this, so if any of your users have trouble getting logged in, it would be very helpful if you could provide us with some test credentials so we can investigate further. In the meantime, if there's anything else we can help with, please let me know." JB. 1
Quatermass Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 I don't suppose you had a phone number by any chance?

Wish I'd had SMHW when I was at school..... would always have had a valid excuse for doing no work!! 2
Quatermass Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) After some experimentation it appears that SSO is now actually working. But the issue is that because we're using SSO, our new Y7 don't have passwords already set in SMHW. So when they go to use their SSO credentials, SMHW goes "ah, you're a brand new user" and asks them to set a password before it finally lets them in. Technically them having such a SMHW password (as opposed to our SSO one) is not a problem in itself (e.g. they can change it to their heart's content without affecting their "real" SSO credentials) but it's mightily confusing for them. That's why we use SSO in the first place It would be so much easier if like our users in older years, the "new user" screen is simply bypassed. I guess I could ask SMHW to pre-populate our Y7 password fields with something generic?! But that would mean their support responding, of course... Edited September 12, 2017 by Quatermass
Quatermass Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 And now the whole site is down again, despite what their status page says.
hardtailstar Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 @Quatermass the phone number is on this page https://www.showmyhomework.co.uk/about/about_satchel.html You may want to take a note of it in case it goes from there too. I googled 'show my homework phone number' and it was about the third or fourth link. 1
hardtailstar Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 If they know the site is having issues or performing upgrades why cant they email the school SMHW admins! Too many times we have had people complain about it not working and then having to report the issue as the status page isnt always up to date!
Quatermass Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 (edited) Absolutely. And ta for the number! After ringing them yesterday afternoon still waiting for a call back though... Edited September 13, 2017 by Quatermass 1
