Parm79 Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Is LGFL internet down for anyone else today, they look after so many schools they really should have weekend support
chris_uk Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Down for us, Croydon School. No browsing in school. Can access remote resources and email is still sending / receiving for our onsite exchange. Just no web browsing. Chris
LGFL_CF Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 (edited) Hi, We do have weekend support. The online help desk is open 24/7. There are currently engineers working to resolve this issue. It was caused by a power failure in Orpington last night. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience cause. Chris Edited September 10, 2017 by LGFL_CF
Parm79 Posted September 10, 2017 Author Posted September 10, 2017 Thank you I logged a hours ago but thank you for your response
LGFL_CF Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 There is a reduced service. Most likely the engineers were working directly on the outage.
LGFL_CF Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Problem now narrowed to a residual routing issue which we can hopefully solve very soon. Thanks for your patience and support. 2
mukz Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Whilst i appreciate everything the team do, the amount of service outages recently have been shocking. Reminds me to talk to someone about the claimback Edited September 12, 2017 by mukz
JohnJackson Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Colleagues, I share your frustrations. We have had this year : 1. A core failure because the CISCO firewalls we were supplied for the core were patched with software that introduced a serious bug that caused the firewalls to fail completely. Following that we changed our patching policy so firewalls in the core are upgraded in phases rather than all together ; 2. We have had two massive DDOS attacks which we defended but caused disruption to schools. Further investments in security tech are planned. 3. Lat weekend Atomwide suffered a power outage and this caused the filtering cluster to fail along with other systems. This shouid have been picked up sooner and we will be introducing 24 x 7 support and additional monitoring over this term. Please rest assured that as the (relatively) new CEO of LGfL I am determined that schools have a great service and I will be writing to schools shortly setting our plans for investment and priorities for new products. I have also reiterated my service expectations to the suppliers we rely upon to operate the services for us (Atomwide and VMB). 1
Parm79 Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 The one thing that frustrated me was that I logged a call last weekend but got no reply until Monday but went on to edugeek to ask peers and got a response within 1 hour and there was no notice on your portal of any problems on Sunday.
RichS Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Thank you for the explanation and sharing the frustration of us and our staff. DDOS seems to be happening more now, do you know what security measures you are putting in place? It is hard to explain how we pay for the service but it gets taken down for an unspecified time because of an attack. It really affects the learning process in school! 247 support sounds fantastic, are you able to elaborate? If I'm having issues getting remote access, is someone going to be there to assist or would it be more along the lines of service affecting support? Thank you!
JohnJackson Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Rich / Parm, further details will follow shortly on security. I set-up an advisory task force over the summer and some good ideas with respect to helping schools came up. I will also be offering another InterceptX type deal (i.e. consume as much as you like at no cost) for clients soon. If there is anything specific you'd like me to think about please let me know. With respect to 24 x 7 cover, I'm going to ensure that our automated alarming and systems stuff is ramped up and I intend putting in human intervention out of hours so calls , at the very least, can be raised and earlier action undertaken. Does this make sense?
