We have run into an issue with non domained laptops, we have them on a sepcific IP range which can access our SIMS server and install the agent locally on the laptop. This then shows up in SOLUS to deploy SIMS directly to the machine. But when we set the deployment away all we get is "Access denied to the remote machine".

I have allowed the following through the firewall on the laptop and also turned the firewall off completely.

Does anyone have any ideas? Like adding the domain admin account to the laptop without domaining the laptop?

netsh firewall set notifications DISABLE

netsh firewall set service type = FILEANDPRINT mode = ENABLE

netsh firewall set portopening protocol = TCP port = 52965 name = SOLUS-3-DS

netsh firewall set portopening protocol = TCP port = 52966 name = SOLUS-3-AGENT

netsh firewall set portopening protocol = TCP port = 8739 name = SOLUS-3--AGENT-UI

netsh firewall set service type = REMOTEADMIN mode = ENABLE

non domained laptops,

one question , why?

if it was my network i would not want non domain machines access to my sims server , full stop!

remote-app maybe a better solution?

Aye apart from the side that seems a bad idea :p But server side, are you sure your firewall rules are set to allow it to connect to non-domain?

By default the profile Solus does was for domain firewalls I thought unless it's changed recently, so if you're trying to use non-domain you'd need additional ones opened on server too

We do a manual install of the SOLUS Agent on non-domain machines and then add the client as a SIMS workstation in SOLUS3 (picking it up using the 'Agents' Computer Selection radio button).

I thought SOLUS uses domain credentials when installing, which would explain the error message. It is a while since I dealt with remote SOLUS agents however...

When you say deployment, do you mean the deployment of the SOLUS 3 agent or SIMS? if it is the agent, I'm assuming you are defining a local admin account (eg computername\administrator)? by the fact you are getting an access denied error rather than it saying it's unable to contact the machine makes me think it's not a FW issue (although it could easily be both). can the SOLUS server get an IP address for the client? how about the other way around?
