[sccm 2012] Combining Task sequences

I currently have far too many Task Sequences, and, in many cases, the only difference between them is the OU into which the machines go in the "Apply Network Settings" section. I'd like to merge some of these Sequences, and have been looking at using the Task Sequence Variable OSDComputerName, which I set further up the sequence.

 

However, I can't seem to be able to use a wild card in this condition. All workstations are named in such a way that I can set the OU with the first 4 characters of the name. Any idea how I can achieve this?

I just pre-populate the computer name in AD in the correct OU.

 

Then if it already exists in AD, SCCM will not move it doing OSD

Yeah I do the same actually, had some issues with getting in the right OU and this is much simpler.

Again not the answer, but I have all my TS put them in an new build OU and I move them after their done. If it is a reimage it keeps it in place.

I also have the OSDComputerName prompt, so I can name it and know where to move it to when done.

Its not a big deal for me to just select the group and move them.

It depends if you mean for rebuilds (known) or brand new (unknown machines)

 

Rebuilds

In SCCM under the OU collections, Create a "Collection Variable" e.g. Name Office - Value = IT (Then Name Office - Value = Maths etc)

 

Under the single task sequence have multiple "Network Setting" options with the OUs you want to join, and under the "Options" tab for that Setting put a check for the Task Sequence Variable Office = IT etc, so it'll only run if it's part of that collection

 

Brand new

Under the single task sequence have multiple "Network Setting" options with the OUs you want to join, and under the "Options" tab for put a check for the task sequence variable OSDComputerName (Or whatever variable you're using) greater than or equals "Maths-" etc or whatever your starting chars are
