Mitel VS Splicecom

Hi all,

 

I have finally managed to get to this point...

 

Appraisal: Get a new phone system- Check

Quotes: Got 5 various, hosted and on premises- Check

Decision:Well, I am down to Mitel vs Splicecom-

 

I already know how the splicecom system works and the phone quality as I had that at my old job. I had a look at the Mitel handsets, the 6XXX ones are so much nicer than the splicecom ones. We are doing 5 year operational lease on this and the monthly costs between the two are very similar. The Mitel has the same functionality as Splicecom but is slightly more expensive. My dillema- when something is too good to be true, it probably is. Do any of you have any experience with the Mitel system? I really do not want to step into something that I will regret later on. I have a meeting next week and that's when the decision is made- I'd really appreciate any input on this.

I've never heard of Splicecom but Mitel I have and never heard anything bad about them. They do good kit from what experience I have had although limited seen some large deployments in 999 centres. For me Avaya and Mitel are up there at the top for me.

 

Grandstream do some nice handsets too, was surprised when a friend of mine was doing a freePBX rollout for one of his customers.

 

Over hosted or on premises, I'd be looking if internet connection can support to go hosted, especially if you have remote sites or looking to join up with other schools.

Splicecom here - had for a number of years and been happy with it generally. Big selling point for us that Splicecom threw in the Vision License for free for Education (ability to record calls, keep detailed logs, etc). Support from our supplier has generally been excellent. The phones have improved over time, the newer basic phones are far superior to the ones we got in initially, but these get replaced with no quibbles if we have an issue as part of the maintenance contract we have.

Splicecom has recently introduced a new offering called Select Voice. The admin interface for those who know it has not been the best gui in the world but SV changes that as it is 100% new. Pricing is also much simpler and cheaper with better support for 3rd party SIP handsets such as Yealink.

 

Spliceom are made in England - a major plus when it comes to support.

 

As the author rightly states, edu partners of splicecom are able to include Vision record and reporting at no extra cost.
