clareq Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I have just successfully built a classroom of Dell Optiplex 3020's - with two exceptions, which report a media failure. I can log onto the network on these machines, and successfully browse the network, so the cable is fine. They have the same network cards as the machines sitting next to them, but I re-imported the drivers into the boot image, just to be sure. Still no joy. I then noticed that the two affected machines were on BIOS version A07, the successful ones were on A03. So I first upgraded the BIOS to A08 on one - no joy. I then downgraded the BIOS to A03 and it worked - I could PXE boot So I downgraded the other machines BIOS to A03 - and it still doesn't PXE boot. Any idea what I could try next?
gaz350b Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Had same issue today on 1 machine Are they known computers in sccm? Try deleting the computer record from sccm so it becomes an unknown computer.
DalekSec Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Have their BIOS got their asset tag in them? We've had a problem before with older optiplex's, the asset tag is missing and it messes with the GUID. Had to use a bit of Dell software to manually put in an asset tag so the GUID sorted itself out and then let me PXE boot
clareq Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 I have already tried deleting it from SCCM - that didn't help. I've brought one back to my office, so I'll check the asset tag now.
clareq Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Service tag and asset tag are both listed in BIOS
snagrat Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Are there any unknown computers listed in SCCM that need deleting?
clareq Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Would you believe it's building in my office!
cooka Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Could always check the SMSPXE log to check whats happening when booting to the network.
mukz Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Would you believe it's building in my office! Yes i can believe this, always happens to me, even MS or Dell don't believe me when this happens.
