Only issues I have with the plastic notes is using them in the self-service tills at Co-op. If you had them folded up in a money clip, you have to spend some time flattening them out before the machine will recognise them. Plus, if they're loose in my pocket, they stick to my phone and fall out of the pocket too easily.

 

Then again, I mostly just use contactless payments now anyway!

You could use one of these for every two of those bloomin' fives.

What's the point in re-doing the fives? Or the tens. Just give us 20's, they're 4 times as good, clearly the best option.

Hurrah for the fantastic plastic ! I love the stuff and the way you can stuff it in your pockets and not tear them or wash the suckers without a care in the world. I can now wash out the mistakes to create the perfect queens tash without running out of money.

This time the people who are outraged are the book worms who are spilling tears about a quote from one of her characters ... I couldn't care less if it had Darth Vader and a passage of vogan poetry to be honest. I love its simplistic beauty and appeal of allowing me to buy stuff without being contaminated with crap or being tracked. Bring on the 20's & 50's already !

Buying things with cold, hard cash means it's very unlikely any system is gathering metrics on you, because theirs nothing to tie you to the purchase (no email/account/card info/etc)

Ah, thanks. I thought it was a suggestion of something in currency making you trackable, like how I've heard some in the US say the silvery strips (which are inside US currency, but visible on ours) are trackers.

I like cash because its untracked, as posted previously. Im not a fan of paying for anything by card as these can all be tracked & profiled. With the exception of using a credit card to take advantage of the protection under certain circumstances I pay for nothing by card.

I only ever draw out cash at 1 cashpoint and use cash everywhere. I closed 1 bank account because they sent contactless cards and told my other 2 banks that they would be closed if they couldn't supply normal chip and pin cards.

I pay for everything on card - usually contactless if possible. It's just much easier and more convenient for me. Why make life harder for yourself.

 

The government and the big corporates either knows what you're up to or can do if they really want to.

Until you want to move thousands of pounds between bank accounts or withdraw whatever your bank feels is a "large" amount. e.g.

I don't quite understand what using chip-and-pin gains you (apart from other people's germs from touching the number pad)?

 

Shops use exactly the same PoS terminals for chip and pin and contactless payments and the transaction still has to go through the merchant, bank and Visa/Mastercard systems?

We are only 40 mins from each other and I saw the new £5 notes really quickly. Might be because I am closer to Manchester maybe?

 

I should image the £10 notes will come quicker though as they will be dispensed in every cash machine unlike the £5
