Hi all,

Got some money to replace 2 old 3Com 4800G that are our fibre 'core'.

I'm looking for a switch (or more than one) that can take at least 30 sfp ports (SFP+ an advantage for future proofing at least). I need some layer 3 routing for VLans - voice, guest network etc separation.

So far looked at the

3 x Unifi Edgeswitch 16XG - don't think it's got what I need for layer 3.

2 x Dell N3024F - seems like an ok option.

What other options should I be taking a look at?

Obviously there is a substantial difference between budgets for 30 SFP against SFP+. For SFP+ you could look at the Aruba 3810, HPE's 5900 range or Brocade's ICX 7700 range.

Have you considered Cisco Meraki? Cloud Management, Anytime Anywhere Access on Any Device (where an internet connection is available) Zero Touch Updates, Continuously Monitoring the Health of the Switches and Next Day Swap out on Hardware Faults. They are also offering a 10 Year Support and Maintenace licence for less than a five-year licence plus an additional 1 year for free (11 Years in total). I have found these switches to be very reliable and the support is great. Click on the following link for a demo https://meraki.cisco.com/lp/free-demo

I would say look at the HPE Aruba Procurve 5406R. Its a chassis, so you stick a couple of modules in it with the ports you want. I wouldn't choose it for SFP though - it works out pretty expensive. But for SFP+ it's probably the most cost efficient (whilst providing all the features you could possibly want).
