Being a "Microsoft School"

I got an email about becoming a "Microsoft School". Is anyone one? Do you get anything out of it?

I got the same email. Seeing as we're heading towards G Suite for Education, I suppose it's a direct conflict to what we're moving towards, so I promptly ignored it!

I got it. I don't really fancy the idea of tying in to a commerical entity - we're not a Microsoft School, or a Google School, or whatever. We're a school that uses their products, which we can do regardless of a title.

Yes, we use Microsoft Windows. Yes, we use Microsoft Office 2016. Yes, we use Microsoft Office 365. You could probably describe the school's infrastructure fairly well by off-handedly saying "It's all Microsoft."

But I'm still prepping G Suite for Education, 'cause it's looking like it's considerably better.

 

Microsoft have gotten themselves into a nice position.. We pay Volume Licensing, so we get Office and 365 all bundled in with it. So since we've (kinda) paid for it, we might as well use it.

But I don't like the idea of entrenching an organisation into your system as standard. I don't want to be a Microsoft school, an RM school, a Google school. Let us just be a school. We use what tools are useful to us.

If only to annoy the music teacher who got given shedloads of money to buy a brand-new top of the range Mac just because he needed Garageband

I applied for it yesterday. Hells yeah I want dat badge. Hells yeah I want people to come in and show people how to use OneNote in class... because I sure as hell don't know how to!

 

Also I need ActiveInspire to die and SMART to also dissappear...

OneNote is about 80% of the reason I started looking at G Suite. 1) Classroom is sooooo much better, and 2) You can't transfer class notebooks, so it basically means long-term supply can't use it (as the work can't be passed back to the teacher on their return)

We use the offline versions so I'm assuming files can be saved to shared areas.
