Rory Sutherland says one reason places like costa succeed is because they positioned themselves as an alternative to fancy coffee pods you can buy in supermarkets, which makes outdoors coffee seem not that expensive. Whereas outdoors coffee compared to instant coffee makes costa/starbucks etc insanely expensive. Like a jar of costa/starbucks type coffee would be £50. That would make outside coffee less popular.
