Newton Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Is this posible and can anyone recommend a way to implement it. I would like to put all my OS and office install CD's on to my portable hard disk. But in a way that allow me to boot from the portable drive and choose which OS's I want to install. I'd also want to be able to access the drive in Windows so I can have the Office install run from it So boot from drive 1.Install XP -->starts up XP install 2.Install 2K -->start 2k install This is to save be carrying round loads of CD, using a server etc is not an option. Cheers
Michael Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Most modern computers allow you to boot from USB devices, however the majority still don't, so booting off CD/DVD would still be easier. Booting to a pre-Windows environment (which would still require a CD) would solve this in the majority of cases as the USB controller would be accessible. A quick google and I found this which reiterates what I said above.
srochford Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 It's easy to get the machine to boot from A N Other device; what's harder is to get it to boot in such a way that you can install an OS May be a daft question, but why is using a server not an option? This is, after all, why god invented networks :-)
Newton Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Booting from the USB device is not an issue. I'd just like to choose which cd image on the device to use. I work at many different sites using many different servers/systems
